The media could not be loaded.  Totally worth it!It is finicky at first and didn’t sync my imports right away, but just closing and reloading the program allows it to repopulate correctly or be visible.Go to the hummingbird website and update your fishfinder software and also the basemaps before utilizing this. I have a Helix 9 G3N for reference. And windows 10.Then, while you’re there, download the product manual for Autochart. It’s cumbersome but does help step by step.It’s rough to get through the first time, a lot of “foreign” info to look at for the first few tries but once I played with it a few times, it takes me no time to go fish for a day, map the area, save everything to the included Zero Line card, load it ok to autochart and get a good 3d to find the best fishing spots.I’m still trying to fully understand the file formats and how I’ll need to separate separate files for different locations when my card is full but it looks doable with some homework. I’ve only had it a week and have mapped 6 locations successfully.So happy with this.I use it on the river, in lakes, etc. great imaging and info for both types of water. Invaluable reference for perfecting where the fish hold up.Give it a shot. And don’t give up after the first try haha. Reload it and try again the next day and hopefully it all comes together.

I’ve now auto charted nearly 200 miles of Mississippi River and the St Croix River along with a few dozen lakes. I’ve yet to reach 1% of used memory. Being able to chart this much knowing I could auto chart half of Minnesota and still have enough to Wisconsin has me tickled pink.

I finally got around to installing this software, put in the zero line card, and the card is bad, says error on card, scan and fix. The 0 line card is bad. This entire mess took almost a month to resolve. After 3 calls, multiple emails, i was finally told to send the card back to humminbird, called following up after 2 weeks, their excuse, my email information was wrong in their paperwork, after another week or two, still no card sent back, i called again, this time humminbird has lost my card and cant find it. Im then told i have to pay another $20 to get them to reprogram and send me a new card. Im stuck, i either pay another $20 or i forfeit/ write off what i already spent. I give them my cc #, about a week later my replacement card shows up in the mail. The software is buggy, freezes up and crashes on latest windows build, bad instructions on how to use this software on the web, What a complete waste of time and resources. This is defiantly the last item i purchase anything from Humminbird.

If you put the time into it, this program makes some pretty awesome maps. Side imaging data overlays are nice to correlate features on the lake bottom with contour of the lake (humps on points, etc.).

I'm a computer networking engineer, been doing this for over 30 years. And I know software & apps. And this one was written too complex for your typical fisherman. I've played with it for a year before writing this review, just to give it a fair shake, and I'd say "use anything else to manage your routes & waypoints, if you can find anything else."Sadly, nothing else is available for Humminbird. It's pricey for being very difficult to use, and I don't recommend it to anyone.Still, I use it, so it's not impossible to understand. But the learning curve is long & tedious, and the online Help section in the software isn't much help.Buyer be ware.

Works well

The product itself is great, and works well in the 898c, but the application "Getting Started" and the help menu were written for someone who already knows everything about the program. I consider the instructions to be too technical for the average PC user. I'm a retired application analyst, and I know my way around a PC, and I found the help menu to be less than helpful. When you call Humminbird for assistance, it's the luck of the draw. One day I got a service rep that only knew the basics (which wasn't much more than I knew), the next day I got someone who was very knowledgeable and helpful.

There is a STEEP learning curve to this software. I started out with Reefmaster which also has a steep learning curve but is MUCH more user friendly and intuitive than Autochart. The only reason I bought Autochart was so I could upload better and more detailed maps on to my Humminbird head unit.I'm glad I have both sets of software as it is much easier to manipulate Tracks, Track Points and Waypoints with Reefmaster. Learning Reefmaster first also helped me get used to manipulating files in a mapping application (with much better instructions and support ) so transitioning over to Autochart wasn't quite as painful. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to start out with Autochart from the get go. It would have been beyond frustration.I'm still giving it 4 stars because it does what it needs to do, even with the horribly clunky interface and anti-intuitive flow actually starting from scratch to a final map displayed on a Humminbird unit. After mapping seven lakes I still get tripped up in different steps in the process.

Autochart works good. Too bad the good folks at hummingbird couldn't get itRight with the first try on the helix 7 g2.
