Finches love these!
We have a new-to-us house and these nyjer socks were a quick solution for bird-feeders in our new-to-us backyard. We get to enjoy the birds without having to commit to purchasing and installing permanent poles and cleaning and refilling feeders while we settle in.We hung the socks on simple sheperds hooks and the goldfinches figured out the socks within two days. The houses finches waited two weeks to check out the socks. All the finches are regular visitors now. The first two socks (hung out at the same time) lasted about a month. It is less expensive to buy nyjer in larger quantities and refill nyjer feeders yourself, but the Kaytee nyjer socks did not seem cost prohibitive to us for their convenience and the joy watching the finches bring us.

Give finches the chance to be feeder bullies for once
I bought this as part of my ongoing battle to keep my neighborhood squirrels from instantly devouring the contents of my bird feeders. In that sense, it has been a wild success - They haven’t shown the slightest interest in this. Similarly, the bigger birds that typically crowd out my feeders, like grackles and blue jays, have completely ignored it.That’s all great, exactly what I wanted! What I hadn’t counted on was that this lack of competition would turn the Finches into greedy little monsters. There is pretty much an all-day mob of house finches and/goldfinches on and around the thing, fighting with each other and chasing off the occasional chickadee. It turns out that six finches as a time on a feeder, with are more voracious than a single fat squirrel. They went through the first of the two included socks in about 4 days, and the second in 3. Also, I swear they’re less skittish of people on this sock than they are with tube feeders. They would always fly off if I got within about 10 feet of the tube feeder, but with this at least some will stick around at half that distance and just sort of yell at me. It’s neat but unsettling. So in conclusion, if you want to a horde of oddly emboldened finches to descend on your yard, this is an excellent feeder.

LOVE THIS AND SO DO OUR FINCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KAYTEE FINCH SOCK FEEDER TWIN PACKWe love the beautiful and brilliant Finches that hang around our neighborhood. When my husband saw this item, we decided to try to lure some into our yards. We had put seed in a plastic 'finch feeder' but the birds just would not land and enjoy the seed. They didn't care for the feeder. So, we decided to try the sock feeder! WHAT A HUGE SUCCESS!We hung one of them in our front tree that is directly in front of our big living room window. What a delight to see the Finches land and enjoy their food. The sock feeders are the favorite feeder apparently! Not only do you get one sock, but you get TWO. The socks are filled with KAYTEE NYJER SEED which is the preferred seed for attracting a variety of small songbirds. The seeds are bite-sized and contain a high oil content which Finches love. We also hung one in our back yard close to the house so we can enjoy the beauty of the Finches. You should store in a cool and dry location. These sock feeders are also made to attract Goldfinches, Purple Finches, Pine Siskins, Lesser Finches, Common Redpolls, Indigo Buntings, and Dark-Eyed Juncos. We also have a ton of Sparrows who hang out, but they aren't attracted to the socks and I don't think the Finches would let them hang out there. These socks are manufactured in Wisconsin in the good old USA. I love that! KAYTEE also has a satisfaction guarantee -- if you are not completely satisfied, return the unused portion with your cash register receipt. How about that? We are totally satisfied; this product is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.If you love the beauty of birds, get yourself a KAYTEE FINCH SOCK FEEDER so you can enjoy Mother Nature at her very best!

Standing Room Only
Here’s the good news and the bad news. The good news is the Lesser Goldfinch in my area absolutely love the Finch Sock that comes with this order. I can specifically say they love the Finch Sock for a reason. I have two socks hanging in the yard, you can see the other one in the background and they are both filled with the same Kaytee Nyjer seed. As you can plainly see they love the Kaytee Finch Sock while the other brand sock only has one bird on it.Let me tell you why. The Kaytee sock is very light weight, really flimsy and not well made. The stitching around the top of the sock that holds the draw string in place was coming apart right out of the box and the fact that it is so flimsy makes it very easy for the finch to get the seed out. Birds are not dumb, they are going to take the path of least resistance to the food.Which brings me to my next point. The sock in the background is from a different company and is quite sturdy. I have had several of them and they hold up a long time. Eventually the bigger finches peck a hole in the sock so it’s easier for them to get to the seed. I can’t attest to how long the Kaytee sock will hold up, I’ll have to update my review with that later, but given my experience with Finch Socks my guess is not very long. The other thing is the amount of seed the finches go through. They will go through the Kaytee sock full of seed about twice as fast as the other sock but in all fairness some of that is due to the fact that more finches are feeding on the Kaytee sock.
