Hard at first, easy after...
This was more of a project to install but was worth the time and effort. My 20-month old for the last 5 months has been traversing the stairs with the help of mom and dad to learn. We are always hand-at-back ready to catch him. Every time without fail he gets to the top of the stairs, stands up, walks around to grab this gate, and closes it himself. He can't reopen it yet, but the little man is mechanically inclined and already figured out our exterior door locks and handles, but it's tough enough to do that I'm hoping he'll be solid on the stairs before he figures it out. In other words, so easy to close that even a toddler can do it, but not easy enough to open even for a toddler that knows how to use a screwdriver. Looks good, works well, and the little guy a few months ago had a habit of shaking the thing with full force and that's a decent amount of force. I'd buy again, and actually will probably buy another for the base of the stairs later this year to replace a different style I have at the base.

Nice looking and sturdy gate, but SO hard to install!!!
This is a very nice, solid gate. I docked a star simply because of how difficult it was to install. The first issue we had was that all the screws were too short to reach the stud. The second issue was that our stairwell is 43.5” wide; so the widest setting was about 1/4” too wide with the screws all the way screwed in. The second widest was about a 1/4” too narrow with the screws all the way out. The way you have to assemble the gate does not account for unusual widths like our stairwell. We ended up having to use the widest setting and purchase an angle grinder (another $50 spent) to shear off the ends of the screws to make it work. With all that struggle, it took all afternoon to install. (Not how I wanted to spend my last day of winter vacation lol.)

Not easy to install but do it right and it works great
I like this gate. It wasnt the easiest to install, but if you do it right, it will work fine. I have mine installed into drywall as there arent any studs where i wanted to put it. One of the drywall anchors is coming lose after about 3 months of use, but thats probably my own fault that i didnt use a drill for the hole. So to open the gate you have to push this little piece on top to one side or another, then lift up on the gate and pull it out. It isnt that hard to do as some reviews state, and a toddler certainly isnt strong enough to open it themself. It wasnt the easiest to install but it is good and sturdy and does the job.

Great Customer Service Experience
Received this gate secondhand, but with some missing pieces. I couldn't find the parts I needed for sale anywhere, so I contacted Munchkin's customer service looking for some guidance. They sent me the parts I needed to install the gate, no extra charge, saving me from having to buy a whole new gate.Only issue is installation can be tricky - the latching brackets have to be lined up perfectly. but once installed the gate is secure and solid. The whole gate swings open, so there is nothing to trip over (easy to do while carrying a small child).Another nice feature - if you have a base board or moulding along the wall where you want to install the gate, you may be able to install the hinges/brackets in such a way where it still opens and closes, even if the wall is not fully flush.

This is probably the best baby gate we've purchased (and we've had quite a few in the past with three kids). It was very affordable, so we bought three: one for the top of the stairs and one for each of the bottom steps since our staircase splits and goes in two directions. Very sturdy. My daughter, who is now 20 months, cannot figure out how to open it, which is the most important part. It is a little tricky at first to learn how to open it, but within a few tries my husband and I plus our two older boys (5 and 8) learned and have no problems. Plus, since we've used it on our staircases in our home, it looks like it's part of the furniture/decor. I love that it's not an ugly white plastic baby gate like all the other ones we've had. Only took a few minutes to put together. My husband also put wood on each side with zip ties to hold it on the railings, worked great.

Works well with different anchors
We have two of these for the stairs and have been using them 4 months. We have a preschooler and a toddler, but they are not very rough with the gates. Top of stairs gate is great. Bottom of stairs gate has issues, possibly because the gate is extended wider (but still within range) for the bottom?Cons:-Screws and anchors provided for the load bearing hinge are not sufficient in drywall. We did not have studs where needed, so we used provided hardware and it came loose quickly just from opening and closing. Had to replace with heavy duty drywall anchors and long screws for the top hinge of each gate.-The plastic fitting on the top bar near the load bearing hinge came loose and now the gate sags and is not aligned (see pics) - I have to lift and push to close instead of just pushing to close. This happened before and we pushed it back in, but now it is loose again. I am awaiting response from manufacturer.-Very difficult to install at top and bottom of stairsPros:-I taught my responsible preschooler how to use the gate so she can use the stairs freely, and the “push to close” feature is fantastic for her (and us) in making sure gate always gets closed to protect the toddler.-Toddler cannot open it-Not too difficult for adult to open with one hand once you have practice-Gate does not have a threshold to step over and only swings opens one direction (you choose the direction when installing) - both features are important for stairs

Excellent pet gate for the stairs
We've used a couple of different gates, this is by far the best. The ability to easily remove it when not needed is great. Installation and adjusting was easy.

Munchkin gate is a good investment for safety
Bought 2 of these for a stairway when our toddler grandson was coming for a visit. They work well. Latches are toddler proof so far, but sometimes also difficult for granpas hands. Installation is a bit of work. Since I have wide baseboards I needed to add a piece of trim on the hinge side but after doing that installation was easy and result was good and sturdy. A slight error in the instructions - you do not want a 1.5 inch plus space on both sides of the gate when installing, but instead you want 1.5 inches plus on one side (or in total). They also look OK on our stairway.

High Quality
I had to install safety gates throughout my house for an elderly parent and this Munchkin Push-to-Close (hardware-mounted, not pressure-mounted) gate is by far the best one we have installed in terms of everything that matters: the construction materials (metal and plastic) are top-notch, flexibility in the direction the gate opens (remember to adjust that before screwing the top opening/closing mechanism into the wall), ease in opening and closing, and overall sense of safety - at the top of stairs, especially.Additionally, I had one of these gates years ago but I was missing three of the four pieces required to install it. I contacted Munchkin from the contact numbers on the new gate information/instruction sheets to see if I could purchase them separately; I was advised that was not possible. However, to their credit and to my great appreciation, they did ship me the parts for free (a one-time offer) and now I will be able to hang the final gate in this house and it will be the best one on the market at this price-point hands-down.Go ahead and order it. You will have made an excellent purchase decision and will receive professional customer service.

Satisfied
Directions were a bit fusy for the installation, but overall it went great to install even alone and very sturdy. Great for top of the stairs and my little even use it to stand with the bars being safe and sturdy. Great purchase.

Baby Gate
This was my second gate like this and I really like them. They are easy to install and work great. You can take them off when not needed and they snap in place quickly when they are needed. They feel sturdy.

Great gate
Using at the top of basement stairs to keep dogs out after they broke our old one. Installation was fine with the included guides and instructions. It does take some time adjusting the end caps to get the perfect fit so you can push the locking mechanism and open one-handed (they screw out/in and have a nut that locks them in place). Once set it's very easy to use.
