Excellent book.
What I like about the book is, it has all the campsites I know about. Campground descriptions are pretty accurate and "Dead On". LOL! After thinking about it, all those folks out there who seek privacy; with this book in hand, the campground is no longer quiet or there won't be much privacy!!! There were few campgrounds that I was looking for. Disappointed in a way but yet, glad that they weren't in the book. I still have my place for solitude with no complaints from other campers about "smoke from my campfire" etc.. Folks, it's all part of camping! If you don't like the smoke and act like bunch of overgrown Cry Babies, STAY THE HELL HOME!!!

Campsites for peace andcre-charging self.
Lived in Owen's Valley before it was discovered. This guide has my favorite camp area.Onion Valley , out of Independence, was where my boyfriend and I would camp on nights neighbors were whooping it up. We both had 4am alarm next morning. Also, temp was cooler and stars were breathtaking.Duplex had no insulation and we shared the front yard..Little slice of heaven and mentioned in this guide book.Great reference!

No map? No eBook version? Still, it's a great resource.
There isn't a better book of its kind out there, so if you want something like this, this is the one to buy! That said, there are a few issues.1) No map! Really, there isn't a single page devoted to a basic overview map that places the campgrounds in their geographic context. The books is more than 450 pages. Surely one of those pages could have been used to provide a single map.As it is, you will need to either know the areas VERY WELL or sit there juggling the book and a third party map, looking up each place, marking it on the map, and then keeping that with the book, so when you are on the road, making a last minute decision about which way to turn, you can do so while also using the knowledge that this book provides.2) No kindle version. Ouch. Why kill trees. And why lug a 675g tome with you everywhere. We like to travel light and keep our library of guidebooks and maps on our phone. (This would also let the author's share their photos in color -- and perhaps even share MORE photos since there is less overhead doing so in an electronic book...though that would mean a different version for eReaders.)3) Cell phone info. It is AWESOME that they note whether there is Verizon coverage at the various campgrounds. I know it's not cool to care, but sometimes connectivity is important. And I realize that Verizon is the most likely provider to have coverage. But it would have been awesome if one of the authors had picked up a cheap ATT plan (from someone like Cricket) in order to document which campgrounds have that coverage (which would have been fewer, I suspect, but still useful to know).Anyway, in summary, there isn't a better resource, and I think the authors have all the data already in place to address items #1 and 2, above. (#3 is relatively minor but disappointing -- though gathering that info is likely much more time consuming than addressing #1 and #2 in a new edition.)If this is the kind of data you are looking for, get this book. It's all there.

Looks like a great resource
We had experienced east side campers over for dinner. We all agreed this appears to be of great value. We checked out campgrounds and sites known to us and found the reports accurate. Even though it seems to be oriented towards tent camping, owners of small RV's and trailers (like us) will find it valuable since some of the sites they rated will accommodate those too. Just check the website for that campground. Not all sites in a camground are rated, but just the general local information about each campground between Lake Tahoe and Death Valley is worth the price alone.

Very good camping info
Very good list of campgrounds. Kudos to the Authors for their hard work.

Too focused on privacy
The book is too focused on privacy. Sometimes the suggested places are private because they are not a popular campground for a reason; there is nothing attractive close by. Our family values a shady campsite in the Eastern Sierra due to altitude and access to lakes, rivers, and climbing rocks.

Incredibly valuable book!
This book is something that I was thrilled to find. We live near Reno, and now we have insider info on every campground from here to Lone Pine. On a recent visit to 2 of the reviewed sites, we found the book to be spot on. I have nine foot long shelf of trail and camping books covering the Sierras. For car camping, this is by far the best, and really the only one needed for this region. Outstanding work!
