Sid the Squid: and the Search for the Perfect Job

My kids and I have loved Sid the Squid! It's one of our favorite books to read together, as it appeals to both boys and girls, as well as adults. The illustrations are beautiful, as they're done by a Dreamworks master artist. My children all seem to think that Sid is a personal friend of theirs whom they want to help out, and when he finally finds the career that's right for him, their is an obvious sense of joy in their hearts for Sid. My kids love animals and all are searching for things they love and want to enjoy more in life, so they relate to Sid's dilemma, and love that he is so good at so many things, but is able to find the thing that is good for both his skills and his heart.Sid is a beautifully done book that would transfer well to the big screen! Great story!!!

This is the perfect read-out-loud book for children of all ages. The story is clever and engaging, with the type of subtle repetitive pattern that kids seem to love, followed by surprising and delightful outcomes. The story is humorous and the lesson taught is encouraging as children anticipate what Sid's (and their) place in the world might be.The illustrations are charming with depth and unexpected detail perfect for kids (and delightful for their adult reading companions!). The witty feel of the book comes from the sense of humor evident in the paintings.Overall, a fabulous new addition to my collection of treasured children's books.

A squid goes out into the world searching for the perfect job for a guy with 10 arms. He tries a bunch of things and eventually learns that even a squid can find a job that's a great fit for him. I bought this for my 7-year-old, but I think it would also make a cute gift for a high school student. I mean, there's no age limit on illustrations of a giant squid wandering around a city looking for a job.

Sid the Squid is brilliant! What a great message Sid shares about finding the right place for each of us. I read it as a read-a-loud to my 3rd graders and they LOVED it! It was an instant success. They all wanted to read it again and get a closer look at the wonderful illustrations. Read it, and you will fall in love with Sid; just like me!

We bought this book along with the Squid stuffed animal. Our son loves to cuddle with his Squid and read all about his adventures.

My grandson loves this book. He asked can I keep it? He usually has to return his books to the library where his mommy takes him every two weeks. Great book for a squid lover.
