Good optics, good build.
Pleasantly surprised!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------21July'18 Update:I acquired a Bausch & Lomb 10x Hastings triplet loupe for direct a-b comparison, and my verdict, after extensive trials is that there is very little to no difference in image quality.Sometimes the this $17 unit seems a tad better, sometimes the B&L seems a tad better - you have to hold both units EXACTLY the same way and look at exactly the same, tiniest details you can find to even have a chance of seeing any difference.I would say this inexpensive lighted unit is easily 98 - 100% as good as the B&L. The B&L is smaller and lighter - since it doesn't have lights, batteries and switches etc - and sometimes that makes it a bit easier to use, IF you don't need the light just then.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I don't have a Zeiss, Nikon, or B&L loupe to do a direct comparison, but just using this alone, the image looks very sharp; with a wide, flat field of view - essentially all the way out to the edge!No color fringing that I see.(I will do a comparison with a pricey loupe first chance, and update this review).Magnification appears to be a full 10x. Any more power, I'd rather use a microscope. The 6 white LED's are definitely useful...AND (huh?) the unit is better than described, in that 7 UV led's are fitted, not 1 as stated in the description and other reviews; 6 around the periphery of the lens, and one off to the side. Go figger. The build quality looks good; the unit seems heavy and solid, and opens with a stiff, viscous feel - which makes it easier to use. Does NOT look at all like it will fall apart anytime soon, as has been stated elsewhere - so the problems there must have been dealt with.Even the leather case is decent enough to be useful and desirable, looks like it might have a reasonably long life....and delivery was FAST....Recommended!

Great Quality!
Perfect clarity. Just as described. The LED light works phenomenal. Great value, high quality and love that it comes with a leather case for storage.

a novice with this loupe
I got this loupe to look at my fountain pen nibs. This is an extremely nice loupe. Sorry this review is a little wasted because I am not an expert about these loupes. The magnification is real good. It is small has uv/ led lights. Be sure to switch off after using. Comes with a leather case, which is worth the price. Better than some I have bought a while back. I believe you will get good results.

Great triplet lens & leather case, but with issues regarding UV illumination
I bought this unit four months ago and in general — I’m quite satisfied with this choice. However, there are a many strengths, and a few negatives, that I wish to point out to other potential purchasers.1. The optics are quite good. This is not a bona-fide "Hastings" triplet set of hand lens — but the manufacturer does not claim it to be so. In their reviews, other Amazon users have compared this triple-lens design favorably to a genuine Bausch & Lomb "Hastings" hand lens. (Note that "Hastings" is a particularly desirable triplet design, among others; Google the term and compare it to the different design of another well-respected type of hand-held lens — "Coddington" — to better understand these optical matters, as with depth-of-field, diameter of lens, achromatic nature, etc.)2. Batteries for the LED illumination are an issue, particularly if one forgets to switch "Off" the unit before stowage (there’s no "Auto-Off" function, which would be a HUGE improvement should this feature be incorporated into a future design). Nonetheless, after over a week’s stowage with the white LEDs "On", the stock batteries still had some juice left but required replacement. I bought 30 replacement AG-7 alkaline batteries for $6 on Amazon, which worked just fine (note that short battery life is an issue with other manufacturers’ designs; this unit requires a stack of three AG-7 batteries, which are somewhat clumsy, but not terribly difficult, to replace).3. The alleged "UV" LEDs are an issue, if ultraviolet illumination is a significant concern. The circumferential white LEDs work just fine and are VERY helpful in the general use of this hand lens — but the other six circumferential LEDs that are blue/purple in color do not seem to give genuine UV illumination. There is a seventh, offset UV LED that comes on when the switch is set to "UV" that causes green uranium glass to properly fluoresce in yellow when the unit is placed to transmit this LED’s light through the glass, in which placement the magnification lenses are useless, as this positioning doesn’t properly illuminate the object being observed. (Note the six circumferential blue/purple LEDs do NOT cause the uranium glass to fluoresce in yellow but merely cause it to show its regular, odd greenish color.)4. The genuine leather case that came with the unit is well-constructed, protective of the lenses, and ultimately quite useful. It fits into one’s front pants’ pocket (with a significant bulge!!) — and it does its job well. I wouldn’t wish to have a lesser case, as glass optics tend to be a bit fragile, as the alignment of triplet lenses is critical to their proper function.Ultimately, this is not a perfect design, particularly in regard to UV illumination, which is the only reason I don’t give the unit 5 stars. But it is a very good & rugged design (especially for ≈$20) — and I’ve been quite satisfied with this purchase.

Quality Item!!
Why did you pick this product vs others?:VERY nice loupe!! Before purchasing any gemstones, or diamonds, I strongly suggest you loupe it. This product is in a really nice leather case, has lighting capabilities for florescence and LED. It is now my "go to" support system. Also a great way to check your mounting for loose stones. Be confident in what you are buying and taking care to not loose a valuable investment!!

Quality in this choice of Loupe is very special
I find the choice of different lights you can see depending on what you need at the time of inspection of the Diamond is most important features to have as a tool when deciding if the stone is fluorescent or to see the quality in close observation. Good quality is a must have. I rate it five stars
