Fallout Trilogy- OK...
Well well well...Actually, I didn't install Fallout Tactics yet, but Fallout 1 & 2 is actually pretty advanced in the technical stuff, but the graphics? Ummmmm...WAIT WAIT!!! Don't go away just yet! Even if the horrible intros (the Fallout 2 intro was good) and the even more horrible 2D graphics with not much sound and lots of blood doesn't look good, I've got to say interplay pretty much succeeded in easter eggs, plot, replayibility, AI and so forth. There are lots off funny stuff hidden in the game. And, oh yeah...read the manual and take notes. The game doesn't ship with a paper manual and Fallout (1 and 2) doesn't come with any in-game guidance at all. No auto-saves. No note taking when that guy says that he needs something but you forgot what and you talked to him and he shot you in the face and swears at you...Speaking of swearing, Fallout could've been rated a T game... because if you're tired of all the mature *@(#&@*#&@(, the game actually has a LANGUAGE AND VIOLENCE FILTER!!!!! (not many games today do)AAAND getting back to the easter eggs- oh yeah, the manual is funny, if you type 'boom' in the credits you get to see a un-censored messed up cinematic of this dude blowing up, and sometimes random encounters and speech lines in the wasteland are pretty funny. The whole game is a joke. Literally. Now for the AI... pretty advanced. Let's say you were shot in the head and your leg isn't there anymore and you're bleeding to death. A modern AI dude would just swear somemore and keep on shooting as if nothing happened, but the Fallout AI has it's...personality. Now I know this is kind of a spoiler but if you shoot Harold the Super-Mutant in the leg, (and cripple it) he would scream in pain and start hobbling towards the exit. Pretty advanced. But of course you can just get out your rifle and pick him off from a distance. Fallout is one of the games where you actually feel good just seeing your opponent scream for mercy. (and there's that bit where you blow the dude's head off with a shotgun) And that's because the game is so BLASTED HARD!!!!! I MEAN YOU CAN JUST RECIEVE A LASER-SHOT AND GET CUT IN HALF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!well anywaysOKOKOK...replayibility... well there's lots of endings to Fallout but just tweaking your character and starting over is gonna make a huge difference. On your first playthrough you might fail to persuade someone and you "accedently" killed him. On your second playthrough the exact opposite might happen. Well...maybe not...And did I mention the Fallout 2 intro? It's really good! Should I tell you? Hmmmm.... no that would be too much of a spoiler.So...final verdict! (drum-roll) (dadadadada) Fallout is a classic, but Fallout 2 is better. No actually Fallout 1. No actually both! So get this package! And if your ol' folks see this M-rated game, show them the mighty awesome power of the FILTERS!!!!!minigun ftw manual ftw no tutorial notsoftwOH YEAH...one more final spoiler tip. You'll know what I'm talking about once you get into Fallout 2.The developers put alot of stuff into Vault City. You need to be a 'citizen' to get in. Or else a day pass- Full entry to everything except the vault...till 6PM...everyday...free...not bad, not bad.BUT...there's a catch. First Citizen Lynette says that to find Vault 13 (which probably has the GECK) you'l have to look into some archive. Problem is, the archive's in the Vault. No citizen, no vault, no endgame sequence. So basically once you become a "real" (The First Citizen will catch your false skeeve papers) citizen, you can do laddydah...Well there's a bar, and inside one of the restrooms is a guy standing over a toilet, possibly...relieving himself. He says a bunch of random and funny stuff, so don't miss out on that!BRAND NEW EDIT----I installed Tactics and apparently it works. The thing is...it messes up my system. Neverwinter Nights doesn't work. Oh no. Maybe uninstalling would work...Um...one more edit--- A note about the 4-star rating. The game does not come with any in-game tutorial of any kind. But once you've read the manual...it's a 5-star fun rating.

Definitely worth it
Even if you only buy this out of curiosity about where it all began... it's worth it.Overall: These games are great, but they are *old*. I'd advise you to make sure you can find some patches just to make sure you can run them well. Don't expect high tech graphics. The gameplay is great, but the graphics suck by today's standards.Fallout 1- After FO3, this game is the best. Great game, simple and yet so complex. This game had great story and it rewards a clever player in wonderful ways. Buy the game, be the hero. Start here, for sure!Fallout 2- twice or more longer, but definitely not the same game. The humor is turned up to 11 wheras before the humor in Fallout 1 was more downplayed. It's a clever, occasionally cynical, and in many ways brilliant game. But it suffers a bit from being *too* big, having more bugs, and not being focused enough. Overall, this game is great and it's HUGE. You can spend hours and not find everything.Fallout Tactics: This game is not bad, but it is definitely outclassed by its companions. It's a stealth genre sort of game, like Away Team, and it's quite fun! I hate to say that it's mediocre, but it sort of is... just in a good way, and enjoyable one. This pack is WORTH it.

A confusing approach to releasing a collection
I prefer real-time to turn-based combat but that's about the individual games. This is a review of the Fallout Collection DVD. It's a single disc that combines 5 CDs for Fallout, Fallout 2, and Tactics. Not to be confused with Fallout 3 for anyone not familiar with the series.First thing when you insert the DVD, AutoRun will open Internet Explorer and tell you that the games can only be installed this way. That's a lie. Browse the contents and run the individual setup programs yourself. The install versions are Fallout: 1.2, Fallout 2: 1.02, and Tactics: 1.13.The DVD also contains a 1.1 patch for Fallout (lower version than what the game is already at), a 1.02 patch for Fallout 2 (same version as what the game installed with), a 1.27 patch for Tactics, some bonus programs for Tactics, and PDF scans of manuals. There are also some empty folders, it looks like someone ran a patch from that location before the DVD was mastered.I have yet to confirm with a serious play through but I suspect these are the European / censored versions.Fallout 1 & 2 can be run in Windows 7 but encounter a problem called the "rainbow glitch" which can be fixed with some system trickery.Fallout Tactics will request the original disc from the 3-CD release. It has NOT been updated to remove the CD check NOR to recognize the DVD as authentic. For collecting or preservation purposes this compilation is no substitute for the originals.
