A good solution for my DIY project
It worked like a charm!!My wife has never liked my old Sony receiver being visible. And when we purchased a new larger TV, which plays audio through the Sony because all TV speakers are junk, the Sony ended up being relocated to a place totally outside the range of the factory remote. But I really needed the remote to work so I could turn down the volume during TV ads.So I searched the Internet for a solution. One issue is that my old Sony receiver employs a 40KHz IR remote, which is less common. Since this unit is designed to work over a range of frequencies, I crossed my fingers and ordered it. I then added a jack to the back of my Sony and wired it in parallel with the internal IR sensor (Sleeve=Gnd, Tip=5VDC, Ring=IR signal).I was please to discover that this IR receiver not only worked with my old [now hacked] Sony receiver, but is more sensitive than the factory solution. So this remote sensor is now located out of human view, and still gets a reliable signal from the Sony remote signals that bounce off the ceiling. The bottom line is that with this unit, a couple dollars for a female jack, and a little soldering, I now have a discreet reliable remote control solution for my stereo & TV entertainment center.

Just What I Needed
I wanted an IR Receiver Extender to work with a Cox Mini-Box (Cisco DTA 250HD/HD-uDTA-C) and a Cox URC-2220-R remote. Thought this would be easy to accomplish but nothing is ever easy in today's technology world. The Product Information was extremely helpful and pointed out that I needed an IR IN device rather than an IR OUT device. Further, I had seen information addressing 38 kHz and 56 kHz. This device handles both. The installation was very easy - just plug it into the box. I had seen a comment about disconnecting power from the box, plugging in the extender, and then plugging the box back in. I did not see this in the limited information that came with the product but did it anyway just to be on the safe side. Everything worked as I expected it to. The product was delivered on time and I would definitely recommend it if you have an application that could use such a device.

Seems like you almost have to be level with the remote ...
These sensors do work with my Cisco DVR boxes, however, I have noticed that placement of the sensor is key. Seems like you almost have to be level with the remote (give or take) to get it to work. For example, in our family room, I mounted the sensor on the top of the TV, so maybe 3.5 feet off the floor. And when sitting on the couch, it will only work if you hold the remote up in the air. So I am going to have to move the sensor to the bottom of the TV and see if that works better. So I would recommend playing with it a little before permanently mounting it with the double sided tape.

Perfect fit
This was a perfect fit for my Verizon cable box. I was able to mount my cable box directly behind the TV. Then just plug this extender in and use the double sided tape that was provided to stick it to the top edge of the TV. It works perfect.

Excellent and fast communications
Excellent and fast communications! I checked first to see if this would work with my arris dcx3600-m cable box and they responded with a yes. However when i plugged it in it did not work. Then I decided to leave it plugged in and "Reboot the box" and it works excellent! I think it would be in the sellers best interest to put a notice in or on the package telling you that the box must be rebooted after installing the extender I am sure this would eliminate a lot of unnecessary returns.

Doesn't work with Sony STR-AN1000
Doesn't work with Sony STR-AN1000. Pheasant supports the correct frequency but obviously it doesn't.

Works as it should with no issues at all.
I have had this IR extender in use for awhile now. I have it mounted under my sound bar in a little indent in the bar so I don't see it. The soundbar is mounted under the TV. All are mounted on the wall.I am currently using this for an older style Verizon Fios Receiver box, which I mounted in a closet to left of my TV set up. All my wires run in walls and are hidden. To date, I have had not one issue with this IR extender. It has worked as it should with no issues at all, the wire was more then plenty long for my application, but if you need to run a longer wire, you can easily buy additional items to make this product work for your application.

New box, new issues
The IR extender worked most of the time (1-2 clicks to get activity) on the older Motorola box that we had from Spectrum. However, we have gotten a new Arris box due to the Motorola malfunctioning. We hit a button and the blue light flashes indicating activity but rarely works and seems to only work about 2 feet from the sensor.I have read some other reviews and see that a different sensor could be a solution, however, I'm not seeing any indication as to which one might work best.
