It works on linux out the box.
it works on ubuntu out of the box. ubuntu 9.x It also work with backtrack but you have to go into the linux settings of backtrack toget it to work but it do just incase someone was wondering.

Using it in Afghanistan!
I purchased this to aid with staying connected to wireless internet while deployed. I have a mac and live inside of a metal "can." Without this product I would drop signal ALL the time, it wasn't worth even trying to use the internet. I noticed people had different variations of this of USB wireless antenna. I was skeptical at best but after purchasing this and installing the drivers this thing ROCKS! I was mostly interested in "skypeing" with my family since I am deployed and seeing them via SKYPE would was not possible until after receiving this antenna. This works and works we'll. The bad, I didn't notice a difference with the 9dbi antenna. As a matter of fact I use the 5dbi antenna with magnetic base. I drilled through my "can" to run the antenna outside and I am happy to report I see my family without dropping signal, okay maybe twice within an hour of skypeing BUT that's okay!! The product works and works well.

i recommend it with the 2
I bought this product because i drive tractor-trailers wifi at a truck stop is very expensive, i saw this as an opportunity to avoid that cost. i bought it with the 9dbi antenna and that is the reason i am giving it 3 stars the 9dbi antenna losses a lot of range and also data transfer speeds i also tried it plugged into the 36h but it still lost range. i recommend it with the 2.2 clean a can and cut a hole in the back for the antenna. range on this product really depends on how many wifi signals are around you. the more there are the less range you seem to get. when transferring data(maybe just outdated tech) but you seem kicked to the back of the line when there are a few people on the network. the farthest i have reached out so far is 350-400 feet with full bars but even with nobody on the network and identified as 54mbps i saw a peak of apx 6mbps but i beileve that is to do with the old tech. it is rugged. has fallen from the top of the truck onto a cooler (7ft) no damage or scratchs. attached below is a picture from my truck to the lowes network i was using last night.

Received the item yesterday 7 Mar 11, the USB wireless is not working, don't power up. I send a note to the customer care for them to ship me another that works or return my money. I really need this to get wireless at our FOB in Afghanistan. my friend has one and works great, my for some reason quit before started.

This is one of the best indoor wireless WiFi adapters on the market. The newest updates are always available for download as well as very simple instructions on how to install and use this device. Strong signal strength too.
