The Empress of China is a 2014 Chinese television drama based on events in 7th and 8th-century Tang dynasty, starring producer Fan Bingbing as the titular character Wu Zetian—the only woman in Chinese history to rule as an emperor. It is the third television production by Fan Bingbing Studio and boasts of a budget of over ¥300 million (roughly US$49.53 million). As such, it is believed to be the among most expensive TV series in Chinese history, beating the previous record of ¥280 million by Heroes in Sui and Tang Dynasties (2013). The television series was first broadcast on Hunan Television on December 21, 2014 in mainland China.

too many ad lib talking between episodes
This version portrays Wu Ze Tian as less evil/manipulative as written in most history books. The customs were beautiful.The most annoying part is between episodes there is either one or 2 people talking holding a microphone like on a talk show. Did not understand the dialect they were speaking, thus do not now what they were talking about. It was very disruptive & not necessary.

Great but if a little expensive
Received promptly on a Sunday no less. All playable. I have a ps4 which fortunately will play any region. This is not my first rodeo buying foreign tv. Unfortunately not on viki.

I Don't Recommend Empress of China
This is a wonderful epic TV series. I enjoyed watching this complicated story of a young girl rising to the top as empress of the Tang Empire. The actors are excellent. The costumes and sets were spectacular. As the description of this DVD set states, you need a player that will play a DVD from the region of China. There are brief ads for other TV shows and movies. Unfortunately, as so many movies these days, the evil and violence portrayed in The Empress of China is a very corrupting influence. I, therefore, can't recommend it.

For some reason the DVD don’t work on a USADVD player,???
