Flyzone DHC-2 Beaver Select Scale Electric Powered Transmitter Ready (Tx-R) Prime Radio Controlled Airplane

Goes together with ease. Used my own Tx-R. Not sure how well the RTF version performs. Fastener quality wasn't as bad as some people had stated; use the right screwdriver and lube up the threads on the longer screws and you should have no issues, although I did up grade with black fasteners. Quality is what you'd expect from most foamies. Had to paint touch up a few parts, a few dings, no biggie. Went together straight and true. I used a 2200 mah lipo and it CG balanced per manufactures recommendations but I added another oz. to the nose. I've always found that recommended CG's often led to a tail heavy plane which was hard to control and almost always led to a crash. Easier to remove weight than add when it's already too late. Plane flies as easy as any high wing plane does. Flaps were a nice added feature but I had to replace the servo horn with a longer one to get full deflection All and all I would buy this plane again. Did I mention the nav. lights?! They really add the cool factor especially the strobes on the wing tips. If you're pondering the purchase of this plane, ponder no more.

I'm not all that keen on scale models; I'm more interested in flying performance than geeking out over scale detail. Nevertheless, the Flyzone DHC-2 has features that suit my RC flying grounds (both land and water).There was a discouraging start. The box arrived battered and there were dings in the lightly-protected parts. Step One of the manual has you fastening the landing gear to the fuselage with screws. I've grown used to the horrendous quality of screws provided with foamies, so I was careful to use a brand-new philips-head driver and to take it slow. All three screws sheared off. The screws provided feel like tin! Valiant efforts at extraction resulted in a mutilated and unusable fuselage.To their credit, Amazon took the whole kit back at once and dispatched another. THAT one was so badly damaged in shipping that they didn't even attempt delivery. I spoke with Amazon customer service. They were great and took action at once. Flyzone DHC-2 number 3 of 3 arrived in two days, double-boxed this time and in perfect condition.Forewarned about the horrible screws, I took the entire hardware kit to my local True Value and swapped every cheap little screw for stainless, with socket heads wherever possible. (Total cost about $10.) With the upgraded fasteners, working methodically and dipping each fastener in soap before driving it, assembly went smoothly.I swapped the Tactic receiver for a Spektrum AR610. This was a plug-and-play installation with no issues.The actuator arm provided for the flaps servo allowed about 30% flap extension at most. I installed a longer actuator arm that gets the flaps down to 100%. I set up my Spektrum DX-8 transmitter with two flap settings, 50% and 100%. I've used that feature a lot. The Flyzone DHC-2's flaps are the best-designed I've seen in any foamie, once I could use their full throw.I swapped the stock wheels for much larger "tundra" wheels and haven't regretted that on rough terrain. I have yet to try the floats. Muff a landing on salt water with the floats and you total the airframe. My goal is 50-100 smooth take-offs and landings before installing the floats!The motor supplied is vastly powerful. In a beginner's hands the roll moment from the torque will cause an immediate crash. Take-offs at full power require a reasonably experienced pilot. Once aloft the Flyzone DHC-2 is pure delight. Predictable, steady, and surprisingly "scale" in behavior. You stooge around at half-throttle or less. 12mph winds are probably the upward limit, above which it takes aggressive work at the stick and throttle to maneuver safely.I fretted about landings and practiced for hours with my E-Flite UMX Carbon Cub SS before taking on the Beaver. Either the practice helped a lot or the DHC-2's benign handling makes landings easy, probably both. With full flaps you want to keep a little power on before the flare so you don't get too slow.This plane is too big and heavy for crash-and-learn RC flying. Anything beyond a rough landing is going to do serious damage. I crashed mine by forgetting that I had the flaps fully deployed during a windy full-power take-off. There's so much power and so much lift that the Beaver went vertical instantly, then looped and face-planted. 100% pilot error! Replacement parts are on the way...

Flys great , looks great, but the landing gear harware (screws) and some of the other hardware pieces are trash and you should use your own when installing. Also check out DUBRO for some bigger light foam wheels, the included are a little small. Build quality is ALRIGHT, not great or amazing. Im happy with it over all though and I fly it regularly. Great climbing capability, overwing characteristics, cool flaps and lights. This thing can lift a liter of water (did it myself) if you keep the c.g in the right spot, so a GOPRO would be no issue. (UPDATE Added a star after one year of owning).

I have had this plane for about 3 weeks now and have flown it several times. Not a good plane for first timer. I have flown significantly over the past 20 years and this took some getting used to. The landing gear is a little too soft and bends easily out of shape, even with no hard landings. The wheels are just too small and I immediately upgraded to larger wheels so that I could land nicely on land. Needed to mod the landing gear by attaching some carbon fiber to the interior of the landing gears then exposing. This stiffened the gear for sure, but needed to also change out the axels as these bent out of shape after several landings.It does fly very nicely, lots of power. Can easily get in trouble though if not too experienced.Have had lots of planes, mostly trainers, this is first flap plane. Lands ok without the flaps which is what I have done on many landings because it's very sluggish with flaps. Learned the hard way should not use the full flap until on final with no turns as it is quite prone to wing stalls at slow speeds with full flaps. One landing stalled the wing which hint the ground and ended up side down on field. This bent the motor mount but was easily fixable.You have to plan on not taking off the wings for transport. They do not cme off easily. Need to wire servo wire, light wire, and flap rod, each per wing. There is very little room to work here, which is very surprising for a decent sized plane with micro servos. Had to take off the windshield in order to run wiring and access the elevator servo and rudder servo for adjustment. But not that big a deal.My buddy has the same plane and transports in kis Kia optima with the wings attached, just need practice on loading her up.Did not but with the cheap receiver it come with in the rtf version. Purchased a spectrum dx6 separately and this is a great radio. Flight mode was key with this radio, allows you to trim the elevator with each flap position, then the trim goes away when you pull flaps back up. This is quite helpful because it will balloon up with full flaps.Overall I do love this plane, it does look great and flies real scale like. Even sounds great on low fast flybuys. Really looking forward to trying out the floats when I get another 50 landings in. 1800 battery gives a solid 10 minutes of fly time as long as your not pushing it. Mostly fly at 1/2 throttle after take off. I go through 3 batteries which is pretty satisfying. One battery would surely leave me wanting more.Very nice plane, the issues are not that big a deal. Worth the 209.00 I paid and I would buy this plane again.
