The heartwarming family film A BEAR NAMED WINNIE dramatizes the true story that inspired one of the most beloved children's book characters of all time. On the eve of World War I, Canadian soldier Lt. Harry Coleburn (Michael Fassbender) adopts an orphaned bear cub and, after naming her Winnie (for the city of Winnipeg), decides to make her the unofficial mascot of his army regiment. When Harry and his troop are deployed to the trenches of France, Winnie is temporarily housed at the London Zoo, where author A.A. Milne meets the bear and uses her as the inspiration for his children's stories, WINNIE THE POOH.

Winnie Is A Winner
This movie is a sentimental movie that is based on a true story. That wound up being a cartoon character. I recommend watching this.

The Real Winnie
This is an educational enlightenment and true story about a Bear named Winnie. It was the start of World War One when a veterinarian assigned to the Horse Division bought a bear cub at a train rest stop. He named her Winnie, after his hometown Winnipeg. She traveled with him to England but when he was assigned to fight in France she could not go with him. He found a home for her at the London Zoo, promising to return after the war and take her home to Canada.

Another favorite UK production.
I think it was targeted for children but I thought it was thoroughly entertaining and endearingly sweet. I enjoyed the friendships of the men too.

A Great Heartwarming Movie!
I just love "A Bear Named Winnie." I have watched it several times since purchasing it and have lent it to many of my friends who have loved it too. "A Bear Named Winnie" is based on a true story about an orphaned black bear cub who ultimately grows up in a London Zoo during World War I. The reunion between Winnie and the Canadian soldier who resued her from certian death as a cub was so moving. It is amazing to see how the bear actors interacted with the human, especially the grown up Winnie played by Bonkers. A Bear Named Winnie is a wonderful family movie that truly shows the bond that can develop between man and animal. The real live Winnie inspired the author to right the Winnie the Pooh series. Great show. I highly recommend it.
