Q: What is the HTS code of this product??

We typically use 6806.10.0090 Exfoliated vermiculite, expanded clays, foamed slag and similar expanded mineral materials (including intermixtures thereof), sub category Other. Alumino Silicate (the primary material in the fiber) is an expanded mullite or slag product.

Q: what happens if it comes into contact with open flames?

Well, that depends upon the flame. If it is an oxyacetylene torch, it would not hold up ;-). For irregular incidental contact, you should be fine, but it is not structural or durable, so if you're thinking of lining a fireplace or stove, it will fail. I have used this for insulating the bottom of a forge (outside 1/4" stainless, lined with fire brick), a rocket mass heater riser (around half fire brick), a rocket stove riser (1/4" SS square tubing), and a homemade dome oven to put on top of a rocket mass heater barrel (the diameter of a 55 gal. drum). In none of those applications does it come in direct contact with the flame, but the rocket stove riser (stainless steel) gets to over 2,000 F. I did test a small piece of it with a propane torch and it held up well.

Q: Could I roll this around a flexible chimney liner, then wrap some stainless steel chicken wire to hold it in place? Is any additional glue required?

i don’t know about glue. i used some concrete and yes chicken wire... it holds up to this day perfectly i use it on an oven that sits around 700 degrees F
