Yes, But. I have drilled into particle board for small pilot holes. The holes are for wood screws. Sizes vary #8 - 12. You can expect to drill and set 6 holes and screws. The last couple will be using your wrist. Then time for a recharge.

Q: can you take this in your carry on bag with traveling?

I'm currently researching this as I recently had a similar product confiscated by the SLC TSA recently. From what I found, you are allowed to take a tool (screwdriver) that is less than 7 inches fully assembled. However, powertools are not allowed as carry on period. So while this is less than 7 inches (6.9 per Skil's website), it may be deemed a powertool, therefore can only be transported in the cargohold. But it has a lithium baterry, so theres that. I tweeted @AskTSA to get a definitive answer.

Q: How is the battery life?

depends on usage if you had a project taking some 3-4 hours and used the device constantly you might drain the unit down below below 25% if you go too low a light will flash for low battery.. I think it is red. when the unit is back at full charge the light is either green or stay on solid to show full charge.
