Easy to read summary of latest research in child development
The highlight of the book for me was that the author didn't make any grand pronouncements. Also I found her approach concerning cost benefit of different parenting styles very much relevant.

Not at all helpful for Indian Parents
After learning that this is a research-backed book, I bought it thinking it would guide me as a first-time mom as to what approach to take in traditional vs. modern ways of upbringing children. But to my disappointment, the book is not culturally suitable for me. Irrespective of the fact that India has nuclear families, our lives are still very much woven with our extended families and how that plays a role in the journey of parenting is something this book fails to note. It's very generalised and at the end of every discussion I felt that the underlying message was - there is no right or wrong way of parenting. Some things work for some and things don't. It is all about trial and error and how you handle your own big emotions when they show up with children. I found reading it a total waste of my time and energy.

Theoretical but may not be applicable
The book tries to give evidence based advice regarding many parental dilemmas, however in most cases ends up telling you to do what suits you best..Also the perspective is entirely American, majority of the scenarios my not be applicable to indian set ups, logistics and culture at all...So take it with pinch of salt...
