Q: you can mount a 400mm lens with canon 7d with this mount?

I mount a large PTZ video camera on this mount; works well. I would think a 400mm lens with a canon 7d might be a little challenging for it.

Q: Can a Peak Design anchor be attached to the quick release plate ? Is the plate designed for camera strap attachment?

Q: Is the clamp portion removable from the ball arm?

The quick removal base and its holder are intrinsic to the unit. Using a different camera attachment is not an option provided.
