Excellent mic for the even better price I paid.
Bought this mic brand new for $28 shipped because I had money from Amex cashback and it was on sale. Sweet! Everything worked as advertised. No self noise like some had mentioned. All patterns worked as expected. The overall sound is somewhat dark like there is a slight de-esser or a high pass filter running, the highs are not overly squashed but definitely noticeable compared to other condenser mics. But that's what they mean by its vintage sound signature. I don't mind it. It does have a fuller warmer sound which works well with my voice. Very happy with this purchase. Also the shockmount on the unit I received uses rubber connectors, not suspension bands, so it feels more sturdy.

Great value for the price
Very good mic for voice acting/voiceover work. Excellent sound, and the Hi-Pass and Pad switches on the front of the mic allow for versatility. Great proximity effect. Also very good build quality, and the attached shock mount is second to none. You should be all over it for $59.99. I don't believe there is a better large diaphragm supercardioid condenser microphone for the price.

Don't pass this mic up... you MUST have one.
As a working audio engineer, I am not easily impressed by gear that claims to perform miracles for cheap. That being said... wow.I bought this because many respected live sound and recording engineers have been discussing the remarkably flat frequency response of this mic. At first, I was leery that a sub-$150 LDC would be worth anything given most Chinese made mics are a compromise. When I got it in the mail, the massive carrying case was a bit of a surprise. The fact that the shock mount didn't suck either was promising. But, the really surprising thing was the weight: at nearly a pound, this thing is heavy and will challenge the best of mic stands. The switches were also sturdy and well marked with five different polar patterns and a PAD.The first test was on a 12 string acoustic guitar paired with a Shure SM81 focused at the upper frets to compliment the m179. The results during the live show were amazing! Hardly any subtractive EQ was used in a cardioid pattern and the response was so flat, it was the closest to a plug-and-play kit I have seen in to years. The slight (and I mean slight) presence between 12-15k seemed a perfect fit for guitar and works well with most voices. But the m179 isn't just a live piece. A week later I use it on an upright bass that has a bad pickup in the studio. Aimed at the upper portion of the F-hole, it provided a rich solid tone after backing off above 8k. Then for kicks, I threw it on a Marshal amp with an electric bass with the pad engaged. Once again, it blew me away with how little tweaking it took to get a great tone. Lastly, the hardcore test: AT4050 vs m179 on female jazz vocalist. The winner? M179. Yep. I said it.... pound for pound the AT was beaten in clarity by this 'cheap' mic.Is this the best LDC I have used? No. But, it is up there in *very* high ranking. Very high. Do yourself a favor: buy one and put it through the ringer. You will want another for overheads, grand piano... hell, the possibilities are endless. This could end up being the 58 of LDCs with the right marketing

Great Microphone
Ok so first off, I have to say I'm not a professional audio engineer and the recordings I do are primarily voiceover, but this was a great purchase. It was sold for an incredible discount at the time, so I feel like I got a great deal.Second, I was concerned about "noise" issues and, in my testing, I found them. However, the issue was only when I attempted to turn the Audacity recording volume to max and set the audio interface gain to compensate. This resulted in the gain being almost at the very bottom of the dial. I don't know if the noise was coming from the microphone or the cheap Behringer UM2, but it was definitely there and prominent. However, when I set the recording volume to the typical 70-80% I used before and adjusted my interface gain closer to the middle, I had zero perceptible device noise. Now as for the device itself, it's immensely clear and wonderful for the mids of voice. It even pics up a nice bass level. The high pass filter and 20 db attenuator work without issue and the dial for the polar patterns has just enough granularity to give you whatever you're looking for. Of the handful of mics I've used, it produces the best sound and allows me to adjust for room tone since I don't yet have a booth.

Specific shock mount, which can't be replaced and will break within 2 months
This is a great sounding mic, and was my favorite of three I tried. I put it on a boom arm on my desk and almost never moved it, except to reposition. The shock mount is very nice, but it is proprietary and only works for these mics, and it has an attachment to mount it on gear, but the handle that holds that joint firm is made of really weak metals that stripped on my On August 2nd when I bought the mic on June 2nd. So I got 60 days before it became completely unable to hold the mic.So now I have a very nice mic sitting on my desk that I can't use, and I am outside the return period, and I can't easily upgrade the holder to a different once from Amazon because its specific to this mic so I'd have to order another original from the factory at high cost and high chance of failure again in 60 more days. I saw this same issue in a review on YouTube and hand waved it away and decided to get this mic anyone. This is your warning, don't make the same mistake.Don't buy this product.
