IT WORKS
Item arrived in time as promised. I am not very happy with their packaging considering it is a plastic item which is not very sturdy. However, my product arrived without any broken parts. What is so good about itIt serves the purpose. Keeps my neighbor's cat away from my yard. I was so fed up with this cat and my neighbor after trying out many different methods to prevent that cat using our vegetable garden as its littler box. My neighbor was deaf to my repeated requests to hold off that cat. I tried orange oil and couple of other methods which did not work. Right from the day one this unit was installed, the cat stopped visiting our vegetable garden. So this one works for sure. What is not so good about itCheap plastic. Unit does not come pre charged. The speaker should have had some kind of cover since it is meant for outdoor. Sensor is not very accurate .Bottom Line.I have gone through all the reviews and comments here. Some of the buyers here have expressed their frustration since it did not work for them. I only see two reasons for it not working. 1. Either you have received a defective piece from the seller. So return it and get a replacement. 2. You did not read the reviews and comments here properly.Tips - Charge the unit using USB connection through your laptop / desktop ( takes a longer time) or a USB charges with recommended current ( faster) before you install this unit.Set the frequency to 3 ( works best but you can try with different frequencies if you feel it does not work at 3) and sensitivity as required.. To check the sensitivity, install the charged unit at a place where you need it wait for 5 minutes and walk near the unit while checking the red LED blinking. Depending on how close you have to walk, increase the sensitivity but wait for few minutes before you test the sensitivity each time. Clean the solar panel at least once a week to keep it in good charging condition.

Dear cats: my garden is not a toilet
Works perfectly! As soon as I laid a bed of mulch in our tiny, urban courtyard garden, neighborhood cats started using it as a litter box. I was coming outside mornings to little mounds of mulch covered by flies-- disgusting! This was the first remedy I tried and I haven't had a "cat deposit" since (it's been about three months of pleasant, cat-roaming weather, too). Although I can barely hear it, the sound drives my seven-year-old daughter bonkers; we turn it off when she is outside.I charged it once with the provided cable, and it has successfully recharged itself in the sun every day since.Really, I can't imagine a better fix to a cat problem. Charge it once, install it; the cats leave you alone, nothing gets hurt, the neighbors don't complain that you're infringing on their cats' apparent right to defecate on your property-- everybody wins.

Take your chances, and make your own tests for cats. You have nothing to worry about returning this to Amazon.
I am a retired Electrical engineer in design of security and power distribution in commercial buildings. However, electronic communication is not my expertise, and having said that I wish to write my findings with this Frostfire Solar Powered Battery Operated animal repellent that I tested for cats. I made sure that this is fully charged overnight, and positioned it about 5 feet above the ground and 20 feet from the wooden fence of our backyard. I set the two dials at the recommended settings. The manual said for cats, set the frequency to No. 3 dot after rotating first the knob to zero, and then twist it to the desired point #3 for cats. The top rail of our fence was being used by different cats as their catwalk to the other neighbors' yard, therefore I positioned it at higher elevation of 5 feet. The first cat and the second cat did not even run or bothered by this repellent, both of them at separate occasion continued walking toward the other end of our fence. The second week I repositioned it about 10 feet from the fence because I thought these cats are have developed hard of hearings. From the start to the last day of the second week, the first two cats and another new cat walk through without any effect to them. I think I might have gotten a defective unit, but I do not want to run more tests of another replacement unit. I returned it after 3 weeks. If the reader of this review wants to buy this from Amazon and wanted to make their test, do not hesitate to do so. Amazon will readily accept a return within a certain number of days if you are not satisfied. A reminder: do not throw away all the plastics, manual and box once you received the package. You should have a printer for the prepaid return label or any means of printing it.

I am absolutely amazed by what I have seen thus far and really pleased with this product.
I bought three of these based on the amount of positive reviews. I've set up two of them with the third to be positioned later. After watching up to ten or more neighbourhood cats sit and lounge on and then spray a disgusting long-lasting stink onto my front door, plant pots as well as leave piles of pooh on my lawn - I decided to buy this product.I've watched and waited to see for myself and today( earlier this morning) I saw an amazing reaction.I set the box to 3 and maximum intensity and the first cat came unsuspectingly up the drive but when it came out from behind the back end of the car it hit the 'zone'. It appeared to stop dead in its tracks, turn and run straight back down the drive and away down the street. I was totally amazed! The next cat appeared about an hour later - it walked toward the box, got closer and closer and I started to worry before slowly turning and walking away. A third cat carefully avoided both boxes by going around the back of both of them, this gave me an idea about repositioning one of them so the cat will be unable to avoid the beam in future.I am absolutely amazed by what I have seen thus far and really pleased with this product. What I've learned is that cats are all individually affected, some find the sound unbearable, while others can tolerate it better but it would appear to have at least some affect on all of them in varying degrees. I've only seen one set of paw prints in my lawn and I'm convinced it is the cat that devised the idea to go behind the box so when I reposition it that will stop that little rouse.I've just seen these are out of stock - I'm not surprised - I'm going to buy some for the back as soon as they're back in stock.Highly recommended.

This works - I have the videos to prove it :-)
I thought either next doors dog or a rhino was messing in our front garden right by our front door, so I invested in a wireless security camera and caught our own cat dumping there early in the morning. Having identified the culprit I bought two of these based on the reviews and planned to use the other in our back garden where there is also a growing pile of turds. Within a couple of days I had our cat on video sneaking round the front of this device and messing in the same area, but realised that may have been because I had deliberately set the sensitivity very low to try to not trigger is as we come in and out of the house. So I turned up the sensitivity and the very next day had a hilarious video of our rather large cat trotting over to it's usual dumping ground only to trigger this device and have it bolting up the driveway. Wondering if I can use a pair of these devices to bounce the cat like a pinball into next doors garden for it's daily ritual. The only thing to be aware of is that although at 46 I cannot hear this thing when it goes off, my two children, 11 and 15 are a little freaked out by it because they can. You can adjust the frequency of the scare noise it gives off which I did yesterday, turning it up until my daughter couldn't hear it anymore. But then early this morning I was alerted by the security camera to a certain black and white furball sniffing around next our front door with impunity and assuming the squat position whilst I could see this thing going off behind it. Needless to say I've now turned it back to number 3 - so no more number 2 :-)

The best thing to do with this is set it to ...
We have a front yard about 1 metre by 3, and I would estimate 4 times a day cats were doing their business in there. It was utterly awful. I've tried everything over the years, even another sonic scarer which was audible to me and did absolutely nothing. I now realise the other was on completely the wrong frequency as you shouldn't be able to hear a cat one.The best thing to do with this is set it to variable frequency, and the light on. Basically this strobes super bright like a camera flash, it really startled and irritated me never mind a cat! We put it in the yard, heard it go off a few times, and have never had a cat poo in there again. Not one. The best money I've ever spent. Basically put no creature is going to sit and do a jolly poo in front of a strobe light.Note:- It works on line of sight, so if you put it where there's a pot plant in front of it you may need a few more to cover an area. I plan to set up a little network in the back garden!- It *will* recharge in sunlight, but not always. It comes with a USB charger, this works brilliantly and lasts ages so just do that once in a while. No need to buy batteries, great!

Big reduction in cat and fox poo since their introduction
Both my neighbours on either side of our property have 2 cats each plus we get foxes on a regular basis. I bought two of these in a bid to reduce the amount of poo that I have to clear from our garden most mornings. I love cats but I resent the fact that all the local mogs seems to use our garden as their toilet. One even leaves me regular packages on our kitchen roof, which is particularly disgusting. Unfortunately, our Jack Russell seems to regard all poo as a culinary delicacy and even sniffs out & devours buried ones in the flower bed. This is obviously very unhealthy and you don't really want her licking you afterwards! Enough backstory - we use these deterrents on setting 3 or 4 and since their introduction, we have seen a 70% reduction in the amount of poo we have to deal with. Some cats run a mile whereas others seem to be unphased but frankly, any improvement is welcome. The solar panel charges the battery quite effectively and the unit can be connected to the mains to boost the charge when daylight is in short supply. We have quite a big garden, so I might need to buy a third unit to improve total coverage. Worth mentioning that we have to keep them switched off when my teens are in the garden because they can hear the high pitched noise emitted from the sensors although their dad is oblivious to it. I tend to switch the sensors on before going to bed and turn them off again when I take the dog out in the garden first thing in the morning. In the summer months, the dog spends much more time in the garden so she's a very effective deterrent in her own right. In short, certainly worth a try and I would buy again.

Effective Cat & Fox Deterrent.
I already had 3 of these for a year+ which work well against cats and foxes. My in laws had a problem so I purchased 2 more for them which are working well, apparently.I would mention that the latest 2 ARE NOT FROSTFIRE make, which is a british company, and they are green, not black. Happily this doesn't worry the in laws.I have had to rely on the rechargeable batteries as the solar charging wasn't sufficient to keep them going in my garden. I have also changed the batteries supplied for Energiser 2000Ah batteries as the supplied type didn't last long. I only now need to recharge batteries every month or longer.Be aware of identical cheaper, inferior imitations being sold by Garden Selections which are rubbish, in comparison, and were returned.

It works.
The house I just moved into has been empty for about 6 months and has a little crockery patch outside. After moving in I discovered 3 large piles I assume donated by the 3 cats next door. Thankfully I shovelled it out on an empty stomach, it was awful, I was heaving, I had to take breaks between piles. I don't know what the answer is but it's unacceptable that cats are allowed to do this, truly revolting. So I ordered this, charged it and since then have had it running on solar. You can check it's working because it gives off a little click when you get close enough. It has been over a month and no more kitty presents. I bought some spray as well which was useless. This works perfectly, but I'm annoyed that with this and the spray I've spent £20 because someone else's pet is using my garden as a toilet. FWIW I'm a dog person but I don't mind cats, or at least I didn't until this.

So far so good.
Bought two of these. Works on the neighbourhood cats except two. However, they are the two I like and don't mind having them about as they don't foul on my patch and are very affectionate. Also, one of them is not well looked after by a neighbour and comes to me as a second home. Either they have a high tolerance, a hearing problem or find a way around triggering the device. They are very artful. I think four would be preferable, pointing to the four compass points, then our furry friends would have to run the gauntlet of a 360 degree challenge to their antics. They therefore need careful sighting. A neighbour has this device and no cats now disturb his vegetable patch. I previously had two similar devices that also worked but didn't last long. These new devices seem to be more robust. I charged them using the RAVpower USB charger (available from Amazon) before sighting them in the garden. It took seven hours to achieve full charge but they seem to be holding the charge well.

Great results so far.......
Bought this as we have recently been plagued by a very "vocal" cat on a nightly basis. Charged it up fully via the USB lead supplied, set it up in a sunny posution about 12 inches off the ground, on frequency 3 at maximum sensitivity, haven't heard the cat since. Not sure if this is down to the device or maybe the cat has moved on?We also have a dog living next door that always barks at me whenever I go into my own garden, usually for several minutes until it gets fed up. So as an experiment I reset the frequency to 2, held the scarer up near the garden hedge, passed my hand across the PIR to activate it, and lo and behold, the dog shut up almost immediately and ran indoors! Haven't been barked ar since then. Not conclusive, but current indications are that the cscarer does actually work.......

Poor usabilty, impossible to tell if it is working or not
There is no way of knowing the state of charge of the batteries. Realistically, solar power is never going to keep them fully charged as the panel is mounted horizontally. So charging by USB regularly will be essential. But there is no way of knowing the state of charge. No charge indicator provided/documented.There is no test button, so no way of knowing if the unit is working, or if it is effective.Maybe it works, maybe not. If your pests were reliable visitors, and have stopped visiting, maybe you are lucky and the unit works, or maybe the visitors have been hit by a car or have just given up on your garden. If the pests are still visiting, then presumably your unit is not deterring them for some reason: flat batteries, wrong frequency, sensitivity wrong, immune pests, .... who knows.Bottom line? Neat looking unit, relatively easy to position. But not something you can rely on.

Against nesting worked perfectly
The birds began to make a nest right above the window on the 2nd floor. Except for screams and noise (especially early in the morning) - it was necessary to wash the window daily. After installing this device on a tree next to the roof - a few days later all flew away. They still fly by, but do not nest. That's exactly what I wanted. My device is directed from the tree to the window - but being in the house on the second floor, I can not hear it through the wall. Although if standing close to - a thin high sound is caught by the human ear distinctly.

TWO YEAR UPDATE
HAS NOT STOPPED THE CATS.Difficult to quantify how effective these are. I bought 4 to 'cover' all the spots where cats had been fouling the garden. Difficult to know if they work as noise is inaudible to us. The strobe light triggering with movement is not consistent over distances and amount of movement (walking and waving of arms). After a month became apparent that one had useless batteries. Emailed seller twice but no response so have replaced batteries myself. Winter now and fewer cats and little sun to recharge the batteries. We will try again this year. Noise free winter for cats.TWO YEAR UPDATE - 3 of the 4 devices definitely do not work, brought indoors over winter, new batteries installed. The batteries are not being charged by sunlight, and one does not work even when all have been charged via USB or separate battery charger, so maybe motion sensor is faulty in that one.CATS HAVE RETURNED - though seen not so frequently. Extra top of fence and wall devices may be partly responsible for this.CAT POO ON HANDS OR SHOES WHEN GARDENING IS NOT NICE.THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE AND VERY TIME CONSUMING EXPERIMENT - IMPROVEMENT IS NEEDED WITH THIS PRODUCT IF IT IS TO BE TRIED AGAIN.

Good, but beware if you have kids
Works like a charm on cats. I've used it successfully in 2 very different places:- cats come in a gap about 8' wide in my wall and mess on my drive. Not any more!- veg patch, about 18' x 18'. Needed careful positioning in a pot (to elevate over potatoes), but one unit worked for the whole area.Beware though that some children can hear - and are distressed - when they break the beam, no matter what the instructions say. As long as you know that it's fine - you can place the beam away from where children play, or reduce or switch it off easily when they're around. In my (unwitting and unintentional) experience, children up to the age of 9 have been genuinely alarmed by it.

So well pleased. Now the unit has been up and running ...
Just bought my second frostfire. when i bought the first one wanted to try it our straight away.. where are all the cats when you need them?? I eventually found one so without looking at it, i moved parallel to the where the cat was crouched .. in two seconds it got up and ran away... just to check it our further, I notice the cat was sitting in front of a bush, i walked up abut 10 ft behind it and turned the unit towards the bush and the cat ran off! So well pleased. Now the unit has been up and running and no cat pooh...on one side of the front garden so bought another for the other side!I gave this unit 4 stars only because the instructions are hopeless, chich meant a bit of trial and error in setting up the direction in which the thing pointed. Nothing about how to check whether batteries need replacing, nothing on troubleshooting faults very poor just one sheet of paper

Does not work with Urban foxes.
Bought 2 of these to help in getting rid of a pair of foxes that visit my garden nightly to dig up the flower beds and foul and mark "their" territory. Set this up and selected the setting for foxes (2). Fully charged them using the USB and them placed them in the garden at the relevant spots. tested that they activated when walked past and could hear the click of the circuit going on, and the PIR light.Night one, both foxes did not seem bothered, but where curious, night 2, they dug the bed right in front of the sensors and fouled in four locations, so definitely I have either deaf foxes or the devices do not bother urban foxes.

They are Pooing in the Garden and what a mess they are also spraying and it smells so bad. I put them in the sun to charge ...
I was so exited to receive these I ordered 3 as we have a communal Garden and some people had bought in stray cats.. They are Pooing in the Garden and what a mess they are also spraying and it smells so bad. I put them in the sun to charge them then put them in the garden thinking this is it those cats are going to pay for all the damage, unfortunately they did not work, I even saw a few cats laying next to them!! I really thought after reading all the great write ups that I had found the solution. But they did not work for me so I have had to return them....Back to the drawing board
