works with aftermarket Apple Car Play - No separate BT or aux connected needed
I have affectively upgraded my aftermarket Apple CarPlay device in my car which pipes out audio via Aux to the stereo with Alexa functionality. I assumed I needed to split the aux connection between the Alexa device and my CarPlay device, but I was wrong. What is wonderful is that now my phone controls what is sending audio. Example, If I tell Alexa to play something on iHeart Radio that works fine, but if I take a phone via CarPlay, or anything else that creates audio from CarPlay then it takes over. Can't fully explain why this works so well, but happy it does.

DIY pair to multiple phones!!
I love my auto device!I'm going to do you a solid and tell you how to pair it to additional phones. That seems to be everyone's big question.1. Turn on your car2. make sure the 1st phone you paired is turned off or out of range.3. Put alex auto into pairing mode. Hold down the circle button until the light turns orange.4. Add new device via Bluetooth in your phones Bluetooth connection area.5. Open the Amazon Alex app6. Add new device and follow all the prompts.7. Test out everything and you're all set!8. Enjoy...

Set up was difficult
Had to call Amazon to get help with the set up. It was a bit of a pain. I wish the set up was easier. I do love this new addition to my 2013 Lincoln MKX

If you love screaming "Alexa! Are you there" while driving!
I feel in love with Alexa Auto first generation! So cool until you shut your car off, then it cannot find your phone & you have to forget it on the app & reinstall. Usually in the parking lot of were you've been. Almost every time.So I thought the 2022 version would be better.Same thing! Stressing out like a bad date!Alexa! Are you connected? Unplugging while driveing! Plugging back in. Why ame I doing this with my hands on a "Hands Free" device?I wanted to show it off to a friend. Cannot connect, try later. Later? I'm already home!I suggest buy one when Amazon gets it right!Great when it works! Witch makes it worse when it doesn't!UPDATEAfter Amazon read my review, they called me on the day I was going to return the Echo Auto. The Amazon tech was very nice but talked to me as if I didn't know how to set it up.I was asked keep using it & keep a log of when it malfunctioned & to report it back to them.I agreed not to return it & work with them.I reported back through email.I heard nothing back. Then last week I received an email from "James" at Amazon staying that they want to give me a replacement but they don't have my phone number. They have my number.I followed the link he sent.Left a message & my #.Nothing.I've contacted Amazon several times & was told a technician would contact me within 6 hours.Nothing.So I've kept this defective device for no reason.I think the return window is still open. This purchase has been the worst experience I've ever had with Amazon! The hour's I've spent with so called techs that have never used an Echo Auto & only know the script in front of them.Any issues that have been fixed, came from me.I have the old Echo Auto. I want to give it to friend but I wanna keep that friend.Just plugg you're phone into an aux cable & set your phone to Alexa hands free & save some money & your precious time.Man, have they waisted my time!UPDATEAmazon contacted me again. The tech was very cool & she gave me suggestions as she also owns the Echo Auto 2022.Unplug this, unplug that.Rest this, rest that. This tells me that she has the same problems that I have with this device.3 songs & it disconnects from the phone. The only way I get it to reconnect is to reboot my phone. Not convenient while driving. So, they sent me a replacement.Something I could have done on my own.The new one is worse! It's played 3 songs while parked in my driveway, then lost connection to my New phone.Got it going after an hour & a half, only to disconnect the moment I left the house.Do not buy this!Having spent hours on the phone with the techs, I realized they know it doesn't work right.I would have returned it weeks ago if Amazon hadn't contacted me.They tried but failed.Maybe in ten years they'll figure it out!

Stay away from Amazon junk!
I’ve had this less than 24hrs and I’m already frustrated enough to give up on it!Worst part about is my brand new ‘24 Honda Prolouge has Google built in, but not Alexa like my Accord had, so I’m forced to try this route. I don’t like google, at all, and can’t control my home alarm or garage door with it, which is why I like Alexa better…when it works.I was able to setup the device, but as soon as I turned the vehicle off and came back later, it won’t connect to my phone. The design is terrible! First off, my car doesn’t use usb, it uses micro usb, but since my cobra radar/dash cams cig lighter plug has a usb input, I used that. Why is the cable so short in length from the plug to this box with speaker?!It’s a cumbersome design, but if it doesn’t connect every time, it’s useless.I had to delete the Alexa app, reinstall on my phone, and reinstall the echo auto again today for it to ultimately work. Not worth all the time and frustration. It just blows my mind they design a piece of turd like this and release it for sale. Amazon has to be getting a ton of returns on this thing!UPDATE: Amazon tried calling me twice and sent me a e-mail before this review went live. The e-mail is just simple trouble shooting steps for a product they know is faulty.Even if you follow the troubleshooting step for step, it still won’t work 100% of the time.Update 12/13/24I’m updating the review, and upgrading my one star. After trial and error I’ve found it works most of the time when I first start my vehicle, and when it doesn’t, I quickly open the app, terminate the app, then open the app again and the echo auto instantaneously connects.Again, I don’t like nor use google which is built into my car. Alexa works much better, and does what I need it to, WHEN IT WORKS!

Works great
Got this for my kids car. You’ll have to sync this to the car owners phone always. Once it’s done, seamless connection. No issues so far.
