Salter timer
Neat little timer in a silver/grey plastic finish - very easy to use and with big readable numbers, so ideal to stick on the fridge and still see it from across the kitchen. Counts down from your set time in minutes or seconds (up to 99 minutes), or counts up from zero. Good loud 'beep' that goes on until you turn it off. There is a little magnet on the back that holds it securely to a metal surface, but if that surface is in any way curved, as with a fridge, you will need to steady the timer with your other hand when you set/start it. There is also a little drop-down stand at the back if you wanted to stand it on a shelf or work surface (the stand doesn't seem that robust, but does the job if you're not too rough with it)All in all an excellent addition to the kitchen - very pleased with this.

Good for the price
Mine arrived today and I've given it a try.I don't want to use this as a timer for any other reason than I want it as a kitchen timer, so -Pros....It's very quick & easy to set, no complicated instructions, brief and to the point.Nice big clear display (I can see it from a good 15ft away or more).Big stop/start button, could be an advantage for someone with joint problems.Cons....Perhaps the two smaller set/reset buttons could do with being bigger also.It only counts 99 minutes and 59 seconds, a slow cooker meal can take 4 - 6 - 8 hours. I agree with another reviewer who said maybe hour/minute increments would be better than minutes/seconds.The alarm is not loud enough, you may not hear it if you are in another room while people are talking. I want to leave my casserole simmering away in the kitchen while I get back to my movie/or conversation and know when it's time to go back and stir it. I'm going to have to take the device with me out of the kitchen. The magnet is not that strong, in a busy kitchen I may well want to adjust the timing with one hand while holding a cooking utensil in the other but it slides around on my fridge door when I try to adjust it one handed. I suggest a good blob of blu tack will help if you want to leave it in one fixed location. There is no on/off switch so it's consuming battery power all the time - when I know how long the battery has lasted I will come back and add that information.Overall -For the price I paid (£4 inc.delivery) I'm more than happy so far.

Just what was needed.
This is actually our second of these timers. The first was identical, but didn't survive the 7foot fall from the cooker hood to the tiled floor!I bought the identical timer againa as the first had proven very reliable and so easy to use.Just set the minutes and seconds to what you want and press start! No fuss.Great product and we use it's magnetic back to keep it stuck on the cooker hood. The hood is 'stainless steel' (OK for all you metallurgists out there it's not true stainless hence the magnet sticks.) so it fits pretty well there anyway. All in all it's a great product with a great price.

Cheap and nasty
I expected better from Salter. A well known brand normally pertains to reasonably quality of product. The whole feel of the timer is cheap, the flimsy plastic stand, and the magnet that is not placed under the buttons, causing it to tip and fall off whatever surface you had it attached to, any time you wish to press one. The buttons themselves are very poor quality. Not only do they have the usual plastic click that is synonymous with poorly made electronics, but it is very easy for the device to register more than one press when only one occurred. It does beep for each press it registers but often a double press happens so quickly that the two beeps merge into one. Whilst its not a huge deal if an extra second or minute is added, if it happens on the START/STOP button its especially problematic. This can lead to it not starting when you believe it has. Which when cooking a big meal in a busy kitchen, this can take some time to notice, and you'll spend time trying to figure out about how much time has elapsed since you thought you turned it on. To me this seems to defeat the purpose of a timer.I do not recommend you buy this. It will only irritate you and make you wish you bought something better.

It’s ok
Very lightweight and flimsy feeling and quite small. Seems to work ok but beep isn’t very loud, I need to be in the kitchen to hear it. Quite simple to use. The digits are quite big but there’s no backlight so you have to look closely to see them unless you are in a well lit area. It will do the job.

I'd be lost without it.
I could gush about this timer all day. It's very easy to operate. It has a magnet on the back so you can stick it on the fridge and yet also has a stand which you can bend to any angle making it easy to view from wherever you have placed it.The display is BIG and clear. The counter can be set to count up or down. I find the alarm is loud enough to hear in another room and yet not so loud as to annoy. It has a simple button layout. One large start/stop button. And two smaller buttons. One for putting in minutes and one for seconds. All the buttons are very responsive. Holding down either button will make it count up very fast, which is useful.I own two of these timers. Really would be lost without them. It's a quality product.Others have mentioned that the display stays on the whole time. This really isn't a problem though. One of timers I've had for over a year now and still not had to replace the battery.

Poor quality
Bought as a replacement for one we had used for many years. Very poor quality. Buttons stopped working well almost immediately and after 2 years it is largely useless.

Just the job.
Easy to use. Decent alarm that's not too loud but still easily audible.
