OriGlam Lyre Harp 7 String DIY Kit, Make Your Own Bass Wood Lyres With String Post and Saddle Tuning

The media could not be loaded. I have ADHD and recently I was wondering to myself: "Man, wouldn't having a lyre be kinda cool?" But CLEARLY that's just the ADHD impulsivity talking, and I'm a college student with no money and way too many things to my name already. Why would I want to spend 50$ minimum on a nice instrument that realistically I'll only play a few times ever, one that I don't even know if I'll like to play?That's where this product came in: the cheapest lyre I could find! For the price of two fast food meals I was able to scratch the itch in my brain that wanted a lyre, AND it sounds pretty good (to me), too! Well, after I spent an hour tuning it, but that's on me for being tone deaf.Anyways, it doesn't come with any instructions as many reviews have mentioned (outside of the ones in the product images) but it was pretty simple after a quick search online for images of 7-string lyres, what I should tune them to, and also after the downloading of a tuning app to help with it.Now, is this a NICE instrument? No. It's 15$. But it's exactly what I would expect for 15$ and dangit it plays music.I would also highly recommend this for children or just for a fun project, especially if you want to paint it or customize it for a costume or something. But be warned that it took me around an hour and a half of setting it up and tuning it, because it IS a stringed instrument that has to be tuned properly. Still, a young kid old enough to appreciate it that has an interest in music might find this a great start, and it can act as training wheels of sorts to see if you think you'll actually enjoy playing a proper lyre someday.Attached videos/images were me playing something after 30 mins of messing around with it (I'm not a musician). I also haven't snipped the strings yet so ignore the mess, haha. In case anyone was wondering, I tuned mine to D4, E4, G4, A4, B4, D5, E5 from left to right (lowest to highest).Anyways, great product, worth the price. Don't expect professional quality, but it's perfect for what I wanted.

While the instrument is okay it is quite small...I sort of knew what I would be getting so I can't complain..However, I received no information sheet so I had to research suggested tuning. Also, no string identity.Pretty straight forward to build but the lack of instructions made it harder and I had to spend too much time trying to find the tuning information and the string order is difficult to establish.

Ok I haven't assembled it yet,but from what I received it's going to be a great project! I'm going to use a med. Brown color and stencils to create an elegant design. It came very well packaged and was exactly as described.

Fun to paint! I could have used more instructions on what to do with the extra string once I pulled it through the tuning pegs. It works for what I wanted it for (a Bible study lesson in King David).

There’s no instruction booklet. One of the strings broke despite me trying to be careful, so tuning is a nightmare. The pegs were hard to insert, and there’s no catch to hold the strings. SO, all the strings are at different heights.The funnest part of assembly was the fact I got to paint it, although the wood feels like particle wood.But. It was $15.I’d have loved some extra strings at the very least, considering one snapped almost immediately :/Edit: I tried to tune it and the strings snapped before ever getting close to tuning properly

Just an amazing instrument that I painted myself, then put together. I play it all the time. Simple to learn for adult or child. The price can’t be beat. I ordered an electric tuner and tune it. I can play Amazing Grace, You are my Sunshine and Happy Birthday. It’s soothing. Easy to carry around. I would say it’s well made. Yes, it’s not professional grade but I wasn’t interested in that. I’ve thought about buying several and having a painting party with my friends. I play Happy Birthday for family and friends celebrating and it amazes people.

Would have been nice to have instructions and strings labeled to what note to string it in the right order. If it wasn't for it just being a costume prop it would only get 1 star.

Absolutely awesome. I have a 16 string but wanted a 7 string for specifically Greek lyre music. Strings aren't labelled, but just compare them side by side.For finishing I gave it a good sanding-- it will probably need it-- then did a wash with acrylic brown paint. I did a border of gold on the wood seams since they wouldn't take the paint wash. Finished with two coats of oil like any other wood.Strings are perfect length. Wrap the ends on the pegs so you don't harm the strings and have them snap. They aren't the best quality, but the sound once they're tuned is definitely passable. I'll probably replace them at some point. For tuning, you want to tune close to right once lowest to highest, then go back and tune them again... and again. Same as any other lyre. This stretches the strings slowly. They're brand new so don't expect them to keep tune out of the bag.I really like the bridge included. My 16 string has a wooden bridge and gets dented; this one is a hard plastic, fits perfectly in the slot, and is low enough without causing issues.Is it the best quality? No, but for the price and for DIY, it's excellent. Could definitely see grabbing a few for a party/painting night and having a blast. And it's small! Perfect size for being portable and not overwhelming.
