Thought provoking and Relevant
This book is a great reminder of the dark times we are in. This message is a clarion call to action similar to Francis Schaefer in his day

Who God Really Is
Fantastic reminder of who we are in Christ and our responsibility to share who He really is with everyone around us.

Ambitious and somewhat repetitious but worth a read
I have read much of Lutzer over the years. This book is somewhat similar to his previous two books on American culture but worth a read for the updated information. There are also some chapters that have information from previous books which he noted at the end of each of those chapters. It is ambitious and articulate but does have a lot of theological discussion that will appeal mostly to evangelicals due to language evangelicals use. Perhaps the evangelicals are his target group. I found the best chapter was the one on returning to the God of creation (chapter 8) where gender issues were discussed. Chapter 11 where he reviewed the Church under Hitler and current trends was also very interesting. For me Lutzer is probably the most informed and articulate evangelical writing today. I gave this four stars as the book could have been reduced to be more concise (275 pages before Notes and comprehensive) when it comes to theological discussion. But it is definitely worth a read for the support of his thesis, which is a new god is rising in the psyche of the American culture and that god is not the God of the Bible.

Textbook on shining the light on darkness.
To my grateful surprise, the author reveals a Scriptural approach to the secularism that delights the enemy. Defining, detailed, and descriptive of our very current situation, we are enjoined to follow Christ and reflect His glory. This is a must read right now.
