Donner DWS-3: affordable and reliable
I’ve been scouring various sites looking for a wireless guitar system with two criteria in mind:1) must be affordable. I didn’t want bottom of the barrel but I also don’t need the best. I’m in a local cover band so I’m not too concerned about top of the line.2) I wanted it to be reasonably reliable in terms of sound quality and consistency of the connection.I am happy to say it lived up to those expectations! It comes with a receiver (plugged into amp), a transmitter (plugged into guitar), 1 usb charging cable, and a basic manual. It was nicely packaged and the quality of the parts themselves were adequate (especially when compared to some of the cheap crap I’ve bought over the years). After charging each unit individually (about an hour for each unit) I plugged into the amp. First impression was that it was easy - plug in, turn on power, play! You do have the option of changing channels which I may have to do some day because we use a lot of wireless gear. I have a very large, industrial sized, detached garage and i could go anywhere in the garage with no dropouts, latency or change in the quality of the sound. At one point I did walk outside of the garage and that was the only time I noticed either static or disruption of the signal but I think that’s to be expected for any wireless signal traveling through walls over a greater distance. I then plugged my regular cable in just to compare the sound and I honestly noticed no difference at all.I can’t speak to battery life because I haven’t used them that long but they are supposed to last up to 6 hours and my gigs are usually about 4 hours so I should be fine.I can honestly sat I won’t go back to a cord. So, here’s the good and the bad:Pros:1) reliable wireless connection over a substantial distance2) no latency3) equal sound quality to cable connection4) easy setup and use5) rechargeable batteries6) multiple channels7) good quality buildCons:1) only one charging cable for two units2) iffy connection through walls

Versitile, Great for Pactice and Priced Right.
I have purchased a few other Donner products, including a different model of their wireless guitar rig (the DWS-2), and have had very positive results with them. So when Donner came up with a new model, I thought I would give it a try. The MW1 is different in that it has onboard effects, including overdrive(“Bluesy”), fuzz (“Metal”), Tremolo and Flanger. The other unique features are a bluetooth output and earbud/headphone output jacks on both the transmitter and receiver.Being an active gigging musician, I’m more inclined to use my pedalboard for these effects on a gig; but for practice it’s nice being able to plug the little transmitter in and with headphones (or my IEMs), just be able to play without an amp, pedal board or cable. The limitations of the built-in effects are obvious – no control over the rate and intensity of the tremolo or flanger, for instance. Both those effects also have some reverb dialed in, while the “metal” mode has a pretty good sounding delay. The built in batteries seem to be holding their charge well and when sending to the receiver mounted on my pedal board or amp, I can get an honest 25 feet away without losing the signal or getting distortion. So, the performance is on a par with the Donner DWS wireless that I have used without problems for more than a year. One of the things I like about both units: They can handle high output and active pickups: This has been a problem for a few other brands of wireless setups that I have tried. This unit works well with my Taylor T5 acoustic, my EBMM Axis with hi-output DiMarzios and with my Tele with active onboard electronics. The faux-wood finish is pretty convincing from a distance and the swivel plugs are a real nice feature, especially if you’re mounting the receiver to a pedal board. The only feature I didn’t like is the battery-saving auto-shutoff. This is probably handy for some – but I intend to use this unit on one of my electric guitars and the other on my Taylor. I tend to switch back and forth on gigs, and would prefer to let the battery run down than have to fumble with a switch between songs.Overall, a lot of bang for the buck – just like other Donner products.
