Q: I'm a beginner, would this be suitable for me?

Good for beginners and/or amateurs nothing beyond that. I must say though that you can get very good shots, almost professional quality.

Q: Can you replace the batteries with alkaline AA batteries if the rechargeable battery goes down?

No. The standard battery is a 3.7 v Lithium ion battery pack (a flat battery) and not interchangeable with AA. My experience shows that the standard battery that comes with the camera goes a long time before needing charge. I did buy 2 extra batteries (a little higher capacity) with charger (both ac & dc) for about $20. I also bought a camera bag that holds everything. All through Amazon.

Q: I have this camera and the battery "meter" is always at 100% until a screen pops up "Battery Depleted." What can I do about this?

Same problem - I ended up buying a second battery and a wall charger, so I always have a charged battery on hand and a way to charge the depleted one. Somewhat disappointing. I was excited to find a "bridge" camera that was fairly easy to understand and takes quality photographs, so I've chosen to live with the battery problem rather than try to return it.

Q: Is it possible to manually adjust the focus?

Yes it is possible but manual focus is not available in all modes. Also, you don't get a split zoom or anything to help with the focus mechanics. Since you're using just a 3" LCD for the viewfinder, in-focus and out of focus is not always clear. Also difficult to do a fine adjustment on the focus, there's no vernier and each time you change the focus it seems to have a certain minimum amount of adjustment.
