Great Background and Projects
This book goes through the basics of making silver jewelry. While it does not take the place of a class, it can help you master the background information so that you can focus on the hands-on portion in class. For example, the author goes over what tools are required. There are several kinds of pliers that are good to have when you're starting out, such as flat nose and needle nose pliers to name a few. There is also a jeweler's metal saw and different files that are discussed as well. This book will give you pointers on which version of these tools you should get and what to look for when purchasing these tools. Hammers, wire, and of course protection for your eyes such as safety goggles are also discussed in detail in this book. After a thorough grounding on tools has been provided, the book moves on to give the basics on the materials that should be used, like silver wire and sheet silver. There is also a thorough discussion on different kinds of clasps that you can purchase to finish off your pieces. Even if you don't plan on making your own jewelry, it's great to learn the different kinds of clasps, their names, and why they're used in a particular style of jewelry. When the tool discussion and materials information is completed, the author of this book launches into the different techniques. Here is where you will really appreciate the need for some one on one personal instruction or a class. Silver jewelry makers work with heat hot enough to melt metal, so it's important to learn from someone who knows how to do this safely and expertly. After talking about techniques, there are some sample projects that looks fun and beautiful. This is a great book to learn some terminology and figure out the next steps to learn how to make jewelry. but i always thought that it is a very fun and interesting project because you can do it the ...
I downloaded this ebook because i am very crafty person and i am always looking for new inspiration on how to keep my hands occupied. I have never tried jewelry making, but i always thought that it is a very fun and interesting project because you can do it the way you like it, and failure is almost impossible if you follow basic steps. This book is very well written, and i love the occasional picture that author used, however, i wish these pictures were larger. I am visual person and step by step tutorials or clear pictures can be very helpful, and i often decide from a picture whether or not i would like to make something, rather than have to imagine it. Especially right now, when i still have no idea of how to do things, but i would like to get visual examples.Otherwise this book is very well compiled, author organized it into several chapters, talking about different jewelry making methods, and tools you will need for jewelry making. Then there are several projects with pretty clear instructions on how to make it - but again, one star down because of lack of pictures! I wish there were more pictures, preferably with each recipe.Do not forget to be Creative! - so remember, you can't go wrong, because you just make it your own!I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Good place to start.
A thorough, comprehensive guide to silver jewelry-making-- recommended primarily for beginners!Pros:~ Language is accessible and easy to read.~ Includes step-by-step instructions for handling equipment.~ Thorough. Goes through the whole process of silver jewelry making from gathering supplies, to techniques, to practice projects. It's set up similarly to a cookbook: the beginning sections introduces materials, tools, and techniques needed before beginning.A handy intermediate section, called "Some Projects To Try Out", gives the reader an opportunity to practice the new techniques learned. The final sections contain larger projects, like earrings, necklaces, and a ring. Each project begins with a list of materials and tools needed, and then guides you step-by-step through the creation process.Cons:~ There are no pictures, which surprised me. They would have been very helpful to look at while going through some of the projects.*I received this product at a discounted price for an honest review, and make it my top priority to keep it that way. I will also update this review if anything about this opinion changes.*I received this product at a discounted price for an honest review, and make it my top priority to keep it that way. Outdated, waste of money
From the description I pictured and thought I'd learn tips and tricks and be able to solder better from this step by step guide. The materials and processes in this book are obsolete. Someone new to jewelry making would never go buy borax cones to mix with water for flux; the new options are less hazardous, easy to use and clean up. This book has few pictures and fewer good ones.If you don't know how to solder you will learn terminology that you may not know. If you already solder and think "this book might give tips, to aid in a problem area.. It won't ...

interesting, just wanted a little more
I do some work with beads and my friends and I were thinking of making some unique pendants. I had heard of a few different methods so I thought I would give this book a try. The author goes into great details about material needed and tools to have to create your piece of art, and there are pictures so that is always very helpful (especially for beginners). I am not sure if I will actually make any jewelry using these methods, some seem a little more advance than I originally thought. There are different methods listed in this book, it is written well and easy to follow.I am a true beginner when it comes to making my own silver jewelry so I was hoping that the methods would be more detailed, but I feel like some were summed up quickly (like molding, author concentrated on 1 and not all 3). Before I would begin doing any silver work I would want to do more research and make sure I had all the information, so this book is a good starting point for me.I received this kindle book for free for my honest review.

Good for the price
It's obviously a leader into her other books and doesn't go into a lot of detail. Nevertheless, it's useful as a shopping list for tools and to get some idea of what's involved. At such a low price, you can't really go wrong as a beginner.

Could be an interesting hobby or more
I was curious about this because this is one of those hobbies that can be made into a business. Inside is everything that you need to getting started I can see how if you can start making pieces then you could visit craftmarkets etc. If this is you then you could have fun with this.
