Good device, if you are willing to give up privacy to gain mobility
I have spent the past week working to make this unit work as advertised.Pros:Customer service was very responsiveThe device was easy to set upThe device can handle 2 drivesCool looking form factorCons:You can not change the cloud ports from the default portsThe Cloud service it works with is insecure (non SSL or any encryption) for the stream [which means anyone sniffing your traffic can access it easily]The passwords can only be 7 characters long (no upper or lower case or special characters if you want to be able to log in on the console)You can not delete or disable the "Guest" account, or the "default account", however you can change their group membership.You can not change the password for the "Default" account.However you can change the group membership.The "cloud service" must be enabled to use the mobile application even inside your network. So the traffic does not stay inside your network.The Web Console only works in IE, not in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, or seamonkey. Additionally, only with an active X plugin (which is not signed)If you add IP cameras you must discontinue using an equal number of physical cameras.In short: You can not use all of the functions that are advertised if you want to be secure and not have the possibility of anyone on the net viewing your stream without your knowledge.

Not Recommended. DVR keeps crashing with the mobile app and reboots itself.
Before i start, I am a certified computer technician and have installed various makes/models of DVRs in the past.My level of understanding for the equipment installation/setup is extremely high.I have good hardware (Cisco business switch with Peplink dual WAN router managing Charter Business cable & Att Uverse DSL)I bought this unit to replace my older 16 channel DVR unit.The picture was clearer and i was excited that i can have a much larger HDD (4TB)Everything was smooth until i setup the mobile app. Their software (Smart Meye) is poorly developed and was not intuitive.However I had everything setup, and I was ready to view the DVR on my phone. About 10 seconds after my phone played live view, the DVR and the app crashed together. App forced to close and DVR rebooted soon after. This was even before I went outside of my network. Happened with WIFI connection. Very frustrated. In addition, their HTTP software is not verified so Internet explorer would not let you connect to the dvr unless you change Active X settings (not safe and not recommended).Good luck trying to look up this product online (or the company)You get what you paid for. I was mislead by the good reviews of this product. Do not make the same mistake I did.Going to get Amcrest unit and forget about this drama.Update: Ended up getting a Q-see 5716 and all problems are solved. Picture quality is much better and there is no buzzing on the camera images. (not to mention better packaging with included BNC-RCA converters, network cable, hdmi cable, and a better mouse). Now my Q-see DVR streams all 16 channels through my network to my desktop or through outside network to my cell phone with no problems. Very well developed and intuitive software compared to camvtech's.

Don't buy a used one.
First off, great DVR. Highly recommended. But the app they offer is awful. Use Meye. Works great for my android and ipad. However I didn't think I bought a used one but I got one. The box did not have the power adapter in it, a sata cable was missing and the molex plug was damaged. All fixable since I have spare parts. But after all that, IT HAD A PASSWORD!! Some research lead to the discovery you can't reset the password... I got another NEW one and it works great!!Soooo. Great dvr, just don't forget your password. And don't buy a used one. Or do-you can return it if need be.

Good support
I replaced my DVR with this one .was so used to the previous one that it was a little difficult to get this model started. Called Amazon tech support, and they connected me with the seller, who was Very helpful and patient to figure out the problem and got it all going. The mobile app could be more user friendly. But it's worth it.

Little glitch but all is good now
Was a little worried at first. The video looked as if it was cropped or zoomed in. I was not seeing the full view of my cameras like I did with my old DVR. I called the support guy (Eddie) and we figured out it was the firmware. Have not tried the WIFI but everything else is working as it should. Great pictures. The user manual is not very good but how often do you see one that is. If you have setup a DVR before then it should not be a problem. It appears to be a Do-All DVR. Would I recommend this unit to a friend? Yes I would.

Great tech support!
We had to return the first 2 dvr's we ordered because there was very little support for installation (other than referring us to the manual). Because sometimes after you do everything the manual suggests & you still have problems, it is good to have a real person (who speaks English) on the phone who can walk you through the process. Last night we couldn't get an answer on the help line when we called, & there was no voicemail; however, within 30 minutes after calling, we received a call back. We so appreciate the help we received from this company, & also that we got this unit for a good price.

I thought that the low price how good can it be
I thought that the low price how good can it be. Well let me tell you that it a fanatic DVR the set up was easy. The picture is great much better than my old DVR 8 channel brand name I will leave out. The software is user friendly a pleasure to use I like it better than my 8 channel DVR. I had to contact Camvtech support to get the cameras on line. They went out of there way to help because there was a problem with my internet. The technician spent a long time on the phone and solved the problem he was great.If you are looking to up grade this is the one to buy. I give it five stars all around Support is great check it out.
