UPDATE after 1.5 years:Officially retiring this vacuum after 1.5 years of vigorous use. It was a good vacuum, but I've upgraded to the Shark Navigator for the following reasons:1. Dirt canister size:The Dirt Devil's 2.2L canister was great for my 700 sq ft apartment. I'm now living in a carpeted 1100 sq ft apartment, and emptying the canister 4+ times per room is just too much. The Shark I've gotten has a ~5L canister, and though it still requires 2 trips to the trash can per room, that's much better.2. Pet:This vacuum was OK when my dog was a 15 lb puppy, but now she's a 65 lb dog and her double coat sheds like crazy. While this vacuum can handle it, the frequent trips to empty the canister got to be too much.If only Dirt Devil made larger canister vacuums of this quality, I definitely would have stuck with Dirt Devil for my upgrade.Other pros:- It's a beast!I've even used it as an emergency wet - vac (generally a bad idea, I know), and it handled it like a charm. Still works great 6+ months after sucking up diet coke and puppy pee. I did have to wash out the filters quite a bit, though.- No loss of suction, even when the dirt canister is full- The brush does not get 'stuck.' I've NEVER had to remove tangles from the head of the vacuum.- Great for vacuuming up long hair. My hair was > 22 inches long, and this vacuum had no problem getting all that off the floor and rugs.- Does not overheat- The canister size is actually the largest out of all the other vacuums at this price point. I had a hard time finding anything < $90 with > 2.2L canisters (my 5L canister Shark cost $179)- Vacuums fur and debris off hardwood very well too. No setting adjustments necessary.Other cons:- The cord is a bit short, which I didn't notice to be a problem until I got my Shark. Since moving to my larger apartment, I typically had to unplug the Dirt Devil 2-3 times to vacuum each room.Initial review, from Jan 2014 purchase:Pros:- Assembly was a breeze. The instructions had no real order, but it didn't really matter because it was that easy to put together.- Has good suction for its size and cost. Picked up kitchen debris with no problem. Removed all hair on carpet with no issue. Vacuumed dust from hardwood floors in a heartbeat.- Bagless! Just pop the can out to dump. Be aware the can opens from the bottom.- Long extension cord allows vacuuming across an entire room or hallway.Cons:- It's not a quiet worker. It works hard, and you most certainly can hear it chugging away.- It has a filter that needs to be replaced on a schedule. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I'd prefer if it was a reusable piece I could wash.

This vacuum is AMAZING!!
This is an update to my original review posted below. I have recently purchased a second one for my office because I am so happy with the first. Seriously this is an excellent vacuum even for the price is one of the best I've used. It sets up very easily (you will need a Phillips head screwdriver for one part but otherwise you just snap pieces in place). Everything about my original post stands even after 6 months.Original post:I can't believe how good this vacuum works. Not because Dirt Devil makes bad vacuums...but for the price of $35 it has outperformed other vacuums I have purchased in the $150-$200 price point! I have a pretty decent size one bedroom apartment that are all hardwood floors except I have a 10x6 high pile are rug in my living room.PROS and CONS:- SO MUCH SUCTION!! I actually can't believe that a vacuum as small and lightweight as this can have such good suction but man does it do a good job! I had to empty the canister 4 times on just my area rug cause this vacuum did such a good job of getting up all the dirt and dust. But on that note, it does have a small canister so it needs to be emptied more often than a full size vacuum. That should be expected but I can see how someone might think of that as a CON but that canister is appropriate for this size vacuum.- Light-weight. I'm not sure what the actual weight is but this is definitely not a heavy vacuum which is a good thing since there is nothing self-propelling about it (which at this price isn't surprising but it bears mentioning) and it does take some muscle going over high pile carpet but on hardwood it's a breeze.- Compact. Again, I have a one bedroom apartment and storage is limited so it's nice to not have a big full size vacuum and still get the job done.I think that's it. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' does NOT apply here! I still am blow away at how well this vacuum performs and I only paid $35!!!
