The best John Wayne book--EVER! This is a PHOTO book! It contains pics of the Duke that very, very few have ever seen. The reason: they are photos of him in a family setting. They are personal and have just been released by the Wayne estate. They are fabulous! I couldn't put the book down. When it arrived, I started thumbing thru it to get a better idea of what I had just purchased. I couldn't put it down for hours! There are sentiments written by Ronald Reagan, Maureen O'Hara, Martin Scorcese, and others. If you have followed and loved the Duke from his early years when you were a kid (as I have) thru all his ups & downs, you will luv this book. I am now 75 and I cannot remember any time in my life when the Duke wasn't a part of it until he died. In fact, he is still a part of it because I own ALL of his movies and watch them frequently. I am proud that he played football at my Alma Mater. Going thru this book and viewing all the great photos helped me understand who this man really was.

i recommend this book , i gave this as a gift ,big john wayne fan , he was so pleased ....it made his day...i also forgot to tell you the best part was the book was fantastic it had pictures in there of the DUKE that we never seen before non posed just him being him, the softer side, like him sitting in the den and his daughter fell asleep on his lap and you can see the love in his face of a parent in that moment, and there was vacation photos with him and his wife and his children when they were babies, and photos of him just being him goofing off, this book is just an amazing book this will not disappoint no JOHN WAYNE fan.  John Wayne: The Legend and the Man: An Exclusive Look Inside Duke's Archives

Seems like a lot of books related to John Wayne out recently, and more to come. In part because of continued fan interest, and I suspect, in part becuase somebody thinks it's time to release before this icon fades from the collective memory. Regardless of motivation, this is one fine volume and should appeal to anyone who was a fan of the big guy and I must confess to being amoung that crowd. Great pictures organized on a coherent fashion. A nice visual history of an actor the caught the imagination of several generations of the movie going public. No, there are none out there that can match the power of the Duke. He came along in a time when there were limited avenues of entertainment and he filled one of them, movies, to the brim. Long live the Duke.

I must have paged through this book over a half a dozen times already and still keep going back to go through it again and again. The family has done their father proud to publish photos from his childhood all through his film career including candid shots with his family, friends and fellow actors/actresses. Photographs from all around the globe this book will be in the hearts and minds of Duke's fans for years to come. Every John Wayne fan should have at least one copy of this book. I bought two just because I knew I would eventually wear the first one out reading through it and showing it to other fans. Well worth the money and then some. Thanks go out to his children for sharing photos from the family archive. Happy Holidays!

I got this for my dad for Christmas. I was surprised how big the book was; yeah, I read the dimensions beforehand, but I was going to get it regardless of how big or small it was since my dad has a life-long obsession with John Wayne. My dad loved the book and wouldn't stop talking about it for a few days after Christmas. It's mostly pictures, but that was expected, so it was super cool to look through.

Not quite done with the book yet but it is awesome. Of course, since I was a kid, John Wayne has always been my favorite actor and still is today. So far there is only one page in there that was a problem and it is page 115 where Pilar talks about John and it says continued on page 76 and there is no continuation. It doesn't take anything away from the book as far as I'm concerned it's still worth the money I paid for it. Love it.

A beautiful book packed with rare behind the scene photographs. The book also contains short essays from Maureen O'Hara & Ron Howard which give some sense of their admiration for the Duke. This collection though feels more like a family album as it contains previously unpublished pictures and many centre around Wayne as a father and husband. I have been a fan since childhood and I guess that only a fan would purchase a book of this nature. An excellent addition to any collection of Wayne memorabilia.

As a self confessed JW fanatic I cannot view this item objectively, suffice to say that for any fan it will provide a very personal window not just to his amazing film career but to what thing he prized most, his family.It made my Christmas (I ordered it & paid for it!) and will be a very much loved addition to my collection.

My hubbies is an avid fan has watched his films so many times he could take part in any of them....drives me madWhenever his films are shown he has to watch!Thought this book would be the ideal surprise gift. He loves it money well spent!

Whats not to like !! I'm a john wayne fan and havent anything like this. so yes i'm really happy with this.Really good quility pictures and lovely insightful interviews. love it :)
