Almost perfect for me
For the price, you cannot beat this cup of coffee! At the time I bought this, is was the perfect choice for me, and I will be sticking with grind and brew in the future. This particular unit isn't for everyone, however. If you're looking for an auto program feature, this isn't for you. If you're going to use it for more than 1-2 cups a day, it isn't for you. If you're looking for no cleanup, it isn't for you. If you're in a rush, go get a crappy cup of coffee from a Keurig. If you want an excellent cup of coffee and don't want to spend $500 or more on an espresso maker, this may be the one for you. If you're a novice at grinding coffee, this is a great start.I use this maker on my days off from work, as I am the only one in my household who drinks coffee. I have used it about 6 months now and have yet to experience anything short of a great cup. No bitter aftertaste, and I've used several different brands of bold coffee. I wouldn't listen to their guide for measuring, though. I like a strong cup, so I fill the grind cup to the max line. I also use paper filters along with the gold basket to make cleanup easier.Speaking of the cleanup, yes, there is some involved. Again, this isn't a k-cup pod machine. You can hand wash all the components pretty fast. I take a bit longer because I'm OCD about it, but I would say I'm done after 5 minutes. I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher again, as I think it actually damaged the finish a bit. Yes, you are going to have some grinds to wipe out of the machine itself. Yes, the cover to the grinder is going to get stained. Yes, there is going to be condensation. Show me a coffee maker for this price that doesn't have that to deal with. As I've said, it's made a wonderful cup every time that the biggest coffee snob would find satisfying. You can't choose the degree of grind like in a burr mill, but I have still found this to make flavorful cups without sediment at the bottom. It also has a 3 year warranty included.I think in the future I may get the carafe model for myself for hosting gatherings and so I can easily make myself 4-cup. I see them listed for the same price as this now on Amazon, and I can't go back to Keurig.Bottom line, you are grinding up beans and dropping those grounds down into a filter. There will be some cleanup. If you don't want to do that, get some pregrounded crap. But for the best cup of coffee, you are going to want to grind those beans fresh!

Great Single Cup Brewer
I am glad I purchased this even with a few bad reviews. It definitely is an easy to use clean SS exterior coffee maker that brews a great cup strong or as weak as you like it. It is for those looking for a one cup at a time bean or ground cup of coffee, even tea/hot cocoa. It brews super hot and slower (about 1 1/2 - two minutes to brew a cup) unlike the Keurig I had most recently. Loved my Keurig but got sick of the pods being discontinued, expense of the pods as well as the flavor of the super quick (plastic) brew.I will confirm that it does take a bit of effort to clean after each cup brews but if you are a one cup at a time person it literally takes a minute and a half to rinse it out and put it back together. Definitely leave it open to air out or wipe out with a paper towel if you plan to use it for a second time immediately then it works perfect. On the weekends I will brew two or three in a day and it doesn't bother me at all if anything it has made my garbage disposal clean and smell free. Last item to mention is that it allows at least a 6 1/2" tall Starbucks cup which is one area I was afraid to purchase not knowing but it fits with room to spare.

And so much moisture gets into the grinder that is useless plus the whole thing is plastic
Many parts but the real problem is the grinder does not work. And so much moisture gets into the grinder that is useless plus the whole thing is plastic. The grinder does not get beans fine enough. Also the many parts are insane and must be perfectly installed each day after cleaning so I bought a grinder that was separate and all metal. Coffee is pretty good but a lot of moving parts.

Cuisinart DGB-1 vs Hamilton Beach 49989 grind and brew single cup coffee makers
I bought this coffee maker to replace a Hamilton Beach 49989 grind and brew I had bought just a year earlier. The HB started to develop switch issues at 9 mo. and quit completely 2 weeks after 1 yr. warrantee period. This was the second HB coffee maker that developed electrical problems and quit near the end of the warrantee. The first was the base model that was a present so I just replaced it. After the second one quit I decided I was done with HB, and bought this Cuisinart mostly because it had a 3 yr warrantee. So this will be a comparison of the HB to the Cuisinart. They both make a good cup of coffee, but the Cuisinart takes an extra scoop of beans to brew an equal flavor cup, 5 vs 4 for the HB. More about this in a moment. The HB grinds longer, but brews faster, a toss up. Price is similar on Amazon, another toss up. Clean up: big difference here. The HB runs the brew water thru the grinder, flushing it out and utilizing all the coffee The HB does not rinse the grinder and a lot (est. teaspoon to tablespoon of ground coffee is left in the grinder and chute, hence it is not utilized in the brew process, and must be cleaned out into the sink, a major waste of expensive coffee, and messy time consuming process. accessory mesh filter for the cuisinart is also much harder to empty and clean, so I use paper filters instead. The HB takes about 2 minutes to rinse and dry, the C. takes at least 10 minutes of flushing and dislodging stuck dry coffee with finger or brush to flush out and carefully dry before it is ready for reuse, Bottom line, I much prefer the operation and easy of cleaning of the HB WHEN IT WORKS! If they would only use higher quality electrical parts or even made them servicable, and showed it with a 3 year warantee instead of building 1 year or less throw aways I would go back to the HB, but because of the poor reliability and lack of willingness of HB to stand behind their product, they leave me no choice but to recommend the Cuisinart, and give the HB a not recommended rating.

This product works very well and is super fast. My only complaints are that there are a lot of parts to clean and the coffee could be hotter (although I like thinks to be completely boiling hot). I would recommend this product highly.
