Good Product
With little skill, I was able to get this installed so it is not too difficult. Instructions should have mentioned that when installing base on stairs, preinstalled locating screws should be on the "up" side. Otherwise you can not install balusters without removing screw. Company has good customer support and responds to questions.

Difficult installation
The solid oak handrail has a beefy feel and is much more comfortable on my hands then my previous wrought iron rail was. Overall, it has a very sturdy feel, and after staining and finishing the wood, it turned out to fit in quite nicely. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I can't take anything away for the difficulty of installation, because I have a hunch, they are all difficult and require some improvising.

Great product, great customer service.
We are remodeling our home and wanted new stair railings, I Googled stair parts and this company came up on Amazon, I was skeptical, I also needed more product than they listed, I called the company, absolutely great customer service, the released more product on their Amazon website and told me if I had any issues to call back, the railings arrived in great condition and very well made, better than if we pieced it together ourselves, looks terrific,

Good product, just not easy to install.
Installation was not as easy as I would have hoped (I did a four foot stair section). The instructions would have you completely assemble the railing and then install the unit as a whole. That's fine in a perfect world where the newel posts and/or walls are exactly vertical and you can cut both the hand rail and shoe rail to the same lengths. In my case I had to install the shoe rail first, then using two balusters (one at the top and one at the bottom), hold the balusters vertical (using a level) and align and measure the hand rail. After the hand rail was cut to size, we twisted on all the balusters and attempted to slip the bottom brackets into the pre-installed screws on the shoe rail. This was not an easy task and required three people. Multiple things went wrong; pushing one baluster into place causes others to slip out, the top and bottom decorative covers get in the way and/or fall off, the metal balusters separate from the upper or lower brackets which are only held by friction from the plastic inserts, parts don't align, etc.Eventually we got it all connected and screwed in place and it looks really nice. For that reason and the decent quality of the materials, we're rating the product 4 stars.I'll mention a few other things about the installation; You need a good miter saw with a quality high tooth count blade to make smooth cuts on the oak. The kit provides nothing for attaching the railings to the newel post or wall, nor any instructions on how to do this. I used a Kreg kit to drill pocket holes on the underside of the rails for the lower connection (to the newel post) and a counter-sink bit with oak plugs for the upper connection (to the wall in my case). There are other ways to make these connections but none are simple. In general, I would say you need a decent set of tools and better than average wood working skills to complete this project.

A bit complicated to install.
Love the railing system, but you must be very precise when installing between two walls.

Bad and a lot of wasted time
We bought this unit thinking it would save us time. I wasted more time fixing there poor quality.First the shipment was damaged. They did send replacement balusters that were damaged too. They said to use a marker to touch them up.Second, the holes in the top rail were not straight. A one end the shoe was centered, but as you worked your way to the other end the shoes were to one side. Had to drill new holes. More wasted time.Third and the biggest waste of time. Our knee wall was right on 45 degrees. All balusters were level. None of shoes sat flat when the set screw were tightened. They all leaned and there were gaps against the wood. I found all the shoes to be at 40 degrees not 45. Blew my mind! Luckily I was able to machine all of them to 45 degrees and they worked great.I truthfully can believe a company with this poor of quality is still in business.

Beautiful and so easy to modify and Install
When finishing our basement, we decided that we wanted to cut the staircase wall back to make it feel less like a basement. Our contractor was not comfortable with doing the banisters himself due to the time and effort involved. My husband found this kit on Amazon and it worked out great. We wanted to keep the original trim on the steps to ensure it blended well with the view from upstairs so we had to cut down each banister to fit the smaller space and still be to code. Once the cuts were made, they were able to pop right back into the upper and lower railing perfectly.
