Glitchy network connection and touchpad
I only had it for two weeks when the touchpad gave way while scrolling through the internet. The PC itself felt really flimsy. It had issues connecting to certain networks and would be glitchy after that. I sent it back, then bought a refurbished HP that I am really impressed with, and is thus far a better investment than the Asus I bought. I've heard a lot of good things about Asus brand computers, so the one I got might be an exception.

Inexpensive option
This laptop is pretty light weight and for a lack of a better term "flimsy" ..... ease of right/left click is poor. There have been several questions as to whether this laptop came with an optical drive, it looks like the option is now available to purchase with or without, which was not available when I purchased mine.Don't think this would be a good laptop to transport back and forth to class because I don't think it would hold up.

Best Customer Service Ever
I called ASUS because i got the BSOD. They were extremely helpful, knew how to help me, solved my problem quickly. I would stick with this brand just for their customer service. I love using my laptop and find it easy to use and comfortable. I did read reviews prior to buying and read that the scroll function is somewhat annoying - I use a wireless mouse as suggested by other reviewers and problems are avoided. I recommend this product.

Very happy repeat customer!
I have been very happy with this laptop! I got one for myself, and have loved it. When my wife's computer broke about a year later, we got her the same thing! It's sexy on the outside, and it runs really well and works great on the inside! It's will put together and easy to setup and use. Very good product.

Crikey ASUS!
Oh ASUS! Another good idea gone wrong. It holds so much promise and doesn't quite deliver. To be clear: this is a BUDGET level Notebook. Unfortunately it has a wonky keyboard. (I'm typing on it right now.) It's loaded with bloatware. And, to add insult to injury, ASUS in its strange wisdom loaded Windows 8.1 with BING. Which was a truly stupid idea. Windows 10 has been trying to upgrade this machine since July 29th and FAILS at every attempt. I never even asked for it. It auto-loaded with the drat taksbar notice. I didn't want Windows 10, and certainly not now. Maybe not ever. This is Windows OEM. Thanks Asus. Hateful thing! I have to laugh; after getting rid of all the bloatware, setting it up in July, I had to walk away from it. BIG mistake as Microsoft tricks everybody into signing into "Your Microsoft Account". Do not do that. Don't. I've never even had a Microsoft account. Heh heh heh. In doing so, because I did not see the faded notice buried in there to set up a "local account", I locked myself out of a brand new computer. Seriously. Nice going Microsoft. Not. I gave up. Never having seen Windows 8 or 8.1, I'm back in Kindergarten. It's a radical change from all the other Microsoft O/S. I'm torn. Conflicted. Some good things, mostly the rest is not swift. I'm no nooby and never have I worked with such a rig. This is my second laptop and my fourth P.C. I've been at it now since 1997. I still call myself a Novice and always will. It is impossible for anyone to keep up with the ever changing and restless Tech landscape. Wait five minutes, it will change. Promise. There is a lot of really good things about this little baby. Really. A truckload of ports. All of them on the wrong side. What was Asus thinking? (Not much.) Don't bother trying to use the keyboard (chicklet style) in a dark room. Not even a single light. I keep hitting the wrong keys. It's kind of weird configuration for a laptop. If you do buy this thing you will appreciate having the CD-ROM which was one of the deciding factors. It's a tad flimsy, to say the least. But is useful, all told. Just be very gentle with it. As my trusty Win7 Desktop MONITOR died a sudden death, unable to access the hard drive, I had no other choice than to come back to this little ASUS and, in an inspiring moment of Neuroses, did a Reset and got into the O/S. Phew! Not a moment too soon. I live on my computer, I needed to get back all of my "Stuff" and get this baby working. I'm still not entirely done but at least I can get into my Blogs. It wasn't fun. The keyboard is pure madness. I have not tried the webcam, so can't say. I'm camera shy, so that isn't a priority. Just nice to have, I suppose. Now if I could only actually see the wonky keys, I might be a happier camper. All told, I am glad I bought it. For the price. Just in time for our sinking Canadian dollar. Oy. Thank you AMAZON CANADA. Your delivery system is nothing short of brilliant! I was astonished when the Asus was delivered several days earlier than stated. Well packaged and unharmed in the delivery.

... product for about a month and so far so good. Interestingly
Had the product for about a month and so far so good. Interestingly, while they state that HD is 500 gigs the laptop actually includes 2 separate partitions---I don't think it is 2 separate drives of 250GB each. The 1st has the System Software and what have you, the other is blank when you get the machine. The machine comes with a trial of Office 365 and also has a trial of MCAFEE Livesafe on it. Like many machines though it also has a fair bit of ASUS bloatware, but most of it you can choose not to install or delete easy enough.Windows 8 is Windows 8, and you learn to live with it, although I probably will toss Windows 10 onto the machine soon. Annoyingly, they don't give you any recovery discs or any disc based software. You have to burn your own recovery discs, and for that the built in DVD burner does the job, but it would have been nice to have a recovery disc in the box. Why do so many computer companies not include any discs anymore? The main issue I have had with this machine is WIFI related, the built in WIFI adapter straight up sucks, and Windows 8 has annoying preferences that if you leave on will turn your WIFI OFF to save power or something, so you have to make sure you go into your settings and make sure that WIndows won't turn your WIFI off for you.So, I have to about 4 different times go in and muck around with the internet settings to get my WIFI to work on my laptop...and this is at home on a known network, and all my other devices could connect to that same network with no issues. So that is annoying and why I can't give this thing 5 stars, as the well known ASUS WIFI problems can be real annoying and frustrating especially for Seniors, Students o the go, or others who want reliable WIFI without having to go into their Internet Preferences all the time to debug why their machine isn't connecting. So if you are somewhat technical savvy, want a cheap laptop and will mostly use it at home so you can mess around with the WIFI settings or hook it up to a wired connection---this is a good cheap laptop to use as a backup computer, or use if all you really do is go online and work on Word documents and want to stream stuff using the HDMI connection to your TV.

decent cheap laptop
Honestly, i would give it less than 2 star in terms of performance, but overall this is a decent laptop or simple to average use. It get you the best bang out of the buck you pay for for simple surfing the web, few document files etc. I haven't tried anything that uses a lot of cpu and power so can't say much, but ok for average daily use.few things to mentiontakes long time to update to windows 10 from 8has two hard drive, c drive and d drive which gives total of 500gig. == didn't know but doesn't make a difference for meavg length of battery gives at least 2 hrsthe laptop is made out of plastic part to make it light in terms of 15,5 inch, so you be careful with it. more like mobile unfriendly or else you'll prob break itlastly, the jack for the usb is finicky in terms of connecting external hard drive for both ports. work fine for mouseand the audio in the laptop is ok, but volume is low. warning is the headphone input jack is for multiple use, for microphone as well so the sound quality and the audio level is terrible for input device, but loud enough when using the built in speaker.Only good for someone looking for cheap laptop. simple office work and surfing the web, not going to carry it in multiple places.gave 3 stars for: price, fits my simple need and it works.down graded for bad ports having only 2 usb ports and being finiky, and bad audio input, and being fragile because it's made out of cheap plastic

Simple, Basic, Easy to Navigate, a GREAT LAPTOP FOR PERSONNAL OR BUSINESS USE,
I purchased this laptop in the beginning of July 2015. My previous laptop (Toshiba A200) served me well for 7 years but it was time for it to retire. I wanted a simple, basic laptop both for personal and business use (I operate a small online business). From a financial stand point it fitted well within my budget. I done my research online and wanted some specifics involved - 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB memory and a duel core cpu. This laptop meet all my requirements. From receiving this laptop in a timely matter, the installation process was a breeze, very easy to navigate. Great tutorials that Microsoft offered to get started to understand windows 8. You get a free 1 month Microsoft Office 365 that is a must for any small business owner. The only drawback for this laptop is that it only has 2 USB ports, but this can be solved by purchasing a USB extension cord.So far I am pleased with my ASUS and I haven't fully discovered the full benefits.yetTheir are many positives about this ASUS laptop. Many more add-ons come with it, too numerous to mention, If your looking to upgrade your laptop or looking to purchase a new one I recommend this one.

Dont buy, i regret it already(PLEASE READ)
Just received this laptop today. I am a student, i bought this laptop for school in hopes that it would be fast and efficient for my school work. I'm going to list a few reasons on why this is NOT the laptop for you. Not even a day after using it, I immediately regret this purchase. Overall, to tell you the truth, it's unbelievably cheap. I hoped I would get something better for my moneys worth but i was wrong. The whole interior seems hollow and poorly designed. It is not a solid computer. I bought this laptop because my old one of 7 years started getting old and useless. To be completely honest, its the slowest laptop I have ever used, its about the same speed or slower than my old one, which is very slow. It makes constant noises you would expect to hear from a 2005 desktop. Also, there is no way of telling whether your caps or number lock is on. There is no light on the keyboard or no notification that lets you know. I cannot watch YouTube videos in HD, it must be 720 or lower to function properly. If you have no issue with being patient and waiting for things to constantly load, then go ahead and buy this laptop. But honestly, if you are looking for something fast and efficient, you might as well end up buying a more expensive reliable computer. I've learned the hard way that you get what you pay for, and in this case, a pretty s***ty deal.
