A MUST Have Essential Oil...Even For Novices
This essential oil has become very "essential" to our well being. I'm a novice with essential oils so I started out a little afraid of this one....concerned about using too much and reactions, etc. It does have a very potent fragrance that sends out a "use with respect" message to someone who's never experienced it before. It's kind of a medicinal odor which took me a little time to get used to. Now I actually appreciate the smell in the concoctions I make with it.My understanding is, it's anti-bacteria, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. First I used this in home cleaning formulas I use around the house, especially in bathrooms. I found those recipes on some wonderful, informative, and safe web sites like Mother Earth Living and eHow. It's an ingredient in everything from my shower cleaner to the toilet and sink cleaners. Amazon even sells Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Liquid Castile Soap which I buy regularly. After the first few weeks of using this for cleaning I noticed an area on one of my fingers that gives me problems with cracking and itching after a day of cleaning was much improved. More research reading needed about the medicinal side of this essential oil. Even found information on WebMD. Wow...very impressive reading. So far I've made a mixture of coconut oil (which is solid) and tea tree oil to use on various skin problems that everyone has from time to time....eczema from hands being in soapy water too often, a wart on one of my fingers that I've had for over 20 years which comes and goes, a toe nail that looked a little yellowish to me, a little cut that looked a little too red.... You get the idea. I made a general mild anti everything ointment which I used sparingly. IT IS FANTASTIC. First how much tea tree oil did I use? I added about 10 to 12 drops to a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil and mixed well. The first time I made it I only used 5 drops to make sure I wasn't going to have any negative reactions to it. Didn't...so went to 10 to 12 drops. Most amazing was the wart. I still have the "bump" on the side of my finger but it hasn't been a problem since I started using this. Previously it would kind of raise up on my finger and finally split in the middle. Then it would get red and painful for a few days. I'd then use over the counter anti-bacterial ointment to clear it up. Yes, I know I should have gotten it removed. I didn't. Now I don't have to worry about it. Any time I feel the wart starting to "act up", I just apply this several times a day. At night I've sometimes applied it and then covered it with a bandage so it won't get rubbed off for 7 or 8 hours. I'm very careful to keep this away from my eyes too. I've never had the experience but I just think it would not be pleasant at all...lol. That yellow toenail....I use this on my toes once or twice a week. I have the prettiest toes an old lady could have. This is truly a very useful oil that has actually made a difference in my health and the natural cleanliness of our home.

YMMV
I needed an all natural mothball solution for my plastic tub of yarn.this seemed like more bang for my buck than buying ready all-natural anti-moth sachets.so, i doused a few cotton balls in a few drops of: clove, tea tree, and rosemary essential oils, and shoved them into the middle of the yarn box and secured the plastic lid.I didn't have an existing moth problem before this, I still have zero moths... so.... but it's not a carcinogen and it's preventative so i'm going to keep doing it.Meanwhile, I now have a few bottles of essential oils on my desk... and late one night, I grabbed the clove oil and dabbed it behind my ears. Didn't think twice, I'm used to cooking with cloves occasionally but nothing heavy on just cloves, as a seasoning. so, at first, i associate the scent with my kitchen, the spice rack, nothing special...Later, I added some more drops of clove oil to my black shirt collar, nothing major, just a warm lovely scent. Then, I remembered I had bergamot essential oil and some lavender too. I added those to my shirt collar too, and when I was out walking with a friend, they thought I was wearing Aveda perfume. So, now I have two uses for the clove oil, gotta find new uses for the tea tree oil and rosemary oil.

Works great! I won't be without it now! Works great with toenail fungus.
Daily I would put two liberal doses of tea tree oil on a big toe that was just starting to get fungus. Now it's growing out with a clear demarcation line: "Before tea tree oil" (the top of the nail, which is nasty) and "After tea tree oil" (the base of the nail, which is normal and clear). It looks like it'll take a few more months for the whole nail to grow out normally. My toenail was just starting to get all fungusy, so it wasn't too thick. If you have a really THICK fungus-infected nail, you might want to "debulk" it by getting the thickness of the nail ground down a little. That might help the tea tree oil get to where it needs to be. That's just my hunch. It can't hurt to grind the nail down if you can do so safely. In any case, be sure to dose the nail about twice a day, and be sure to get some oil at the base of the nail. That's where it's going to grow out and hopefully will kill the fungus. Be patient, it's going to take a while, depending on how fast your toenails grow.I've also used this oil on other blemishes and other trouble spots on my skin. In some cases, a few doses of tea tree oil completely cleared up the spot. In other cases, it took weeks of small, steady applications of tea tree oil before the spot would disappear or at least fade dramatically.
