This is an informative book about the history of Australia. I liked this book because I learned some new facts that I did not know before reading this book. I read this book for my personal pleasure and personal knowledge. Some of the interesting facts that this book includes is the following information: The explorer named Matthew Flinders called Australia Terra Australis. The Latin word australis means southern and terra means land. The name was changed and officially abbreviated to Australia. Tasmania was originally known as Van Diemen's Land. The government changed the island's name to Tasmania in 1856 after the explorer Able Tasman. Once the city of Brisbane was established, it split away from New South Wales to separate into an individual state called Queensland.

A nice overview on the discovery of Australia, the original peoples , the English settlements, and immigration up to modern times. I purchased this prior to a visit there and found it very useful. Didn't see the point on Japanese customs at the end however.

The book was properly packed and arrived in good shape.

Easy read. Very informative

This book is awful. It is filled with useless information and lots of unsupported opinions and 'facts.' It reads like something someone in high school would write. It is double spaced with short chapters and a lot of white space seemingly to simply increase the number of total pages. There are 30 pages of unrelated material. It is a waste of time.

This book is less detailed than Wikipedia and not well written. Decades of important history covered in one page. No causal information provided. Waste of time and money.The other reviews are obviously spam and written to get you to buy this book. This is my first encounter with false Amazon reviews and I have learned a lesson.

Very superficial. Too shallow

There was little useful information in this book. I found better coverage in one chapter of another book -- one on genealogy.

Good read into the world of Oz early on.
