Seems to work to repel mosquitoes.
I bought this to help repel mosquitoes.I used a small spritz bottle, filled with 2 oz of 95% rubbing alcohol and 90 drops of this essential oil.I spritz around my front porch doorway, onto the mesh screen and on surfaces on my porch. another time I spritzed it onto the doorway of my work closet, the mesh screen covering the back door, and other items around the porch in the backyard. Both times, the presence of mosquitoes was greatly reduced from what I normally experience without. I was able to work without swatting or getting bitten. I did not wear any mosquito repellent on my skin or clothing, nor did I spray this essential oil mixture on any part of myself. It seemed to last about 30-40 minutes before I started to see mosquitoes trying to swarm around me again. One extra effect is that my cats seemed extra interested in hanging about the doorway, and proceeded to lie down and flop about lazily and cheerful at the threshold. I did NOT spray this onto the cats. They smelled the spray after i has sprayed it onto the vertical surfaces. Maybe some spritz lighted on the floor and ground nearby

Barney & Feif would give it 20 toes up if they weren't rolling around on the carpet.
Wowza! I ran out of the 'other' stuff and took a chance on this. I opened the bottle and a few seconds later, Barney comes bounding down the stairs and looked at me like "new stash here?" That was a good sign ... mixed 12 drops to 30ml of water (probably a lot stronger than the 'other' stuff) and put it in the old spray bottle. I normally spray it on the carpet by computer chair but was anxious to see if Barney really did like it so I spritzed a few spritzes on the carpet going up the stairs. Well for 15 minutes now, Barney has been trying to tear up the carpet on the stairs and keeps trying to roll in it but of course falls off the riser and his sister Feif dives in when Barney rolls off the riser, then Barney pushes Feif out of the way and the whole cycle starts again. After a few minutes I went upstairs and spritzed some where I normally and now Feif is trying to tear up the carpet and rolling around like crazy. I keep trying to get a picture of this but every time I get the camera they scatter and the second the camera is gone they are back at it again. I guess they are paranoid. So yes indeedy! For cat's that have the catnip gene turned fully on like my two, this is what you would call Catnip Sinsemilla. I'd be terrified to try it full strength.

Seems nice
I bought this for the mosquitos, and it seems to work, so that's great. I was hoping for a chemical analysis to be included though. Thought I read it would be included somewhere in the advertisement, so that was a little disappointing. Ecopharm Hellas sent a great analysis when I bought their oregano oil, and I use them in my science class. That's the picture I included, so maybe Plant Therapy can include something like that next time. Not the best scent when it's concentrated, but when it's diluted it smells all right, and a little rose oil mixes well with it. Lavender might work too.

BAD! Smells rancid/ burnt. Ineligible for return.
I ordered some essential oils to make some "anti mosquito" cold process soap, and catnip essential oil is one of the ingredients. I found catnip essential oil cheaper from 2 other non-Amazon vendors a day after I found this on Amazon, and since I was going to make several batches of soap I went ahead and ordered more (some from each of the other 2 vendors). This one that I ordered on Amazon from Plant Therapy came quickly and was well-packaged. I have ordered and used other essential oils from Plant Therapy that were great (may chang, clary sage and atlas cedarwood); they smelled like they were supposed to and worked great for soap-making. However -- the catnip essential oil smelled rancid / burnt when I opened the vial. As in, absolutely disgusting, and nothing like catnip oil should smell like (herbaceous with a hint of mint). The Plant Therapy catnip essential oil smells like a room full of people who haven't showered for awhile smoking really pungent bad-smelling cigarettes or cigars. A side by side comparison from catnip essential oil from the other two vendors showed that those had the expected (herbaceous with mint notes) smell, nothing like this absolutely disgusting $25 (for a mere 10 ml) vial of who knows what that is ineligible for return. It smells nothing like the catnip I grow for our cats, and it smells nothing like the other catnip essential oil that I got from 2 other vendors. If it even is catnip essential oil, it was either processed wrong or went bad prior to my receiving. (I'd like to point out that unlike other essential oils I got from other vendors, there is no expiration date on the package, and there is no indication of how old the vial is.) Pretty disappointing.

Happy kitties
I dilute this in a spray bottle with water (just give it a real good shake before spraying) and then use it every couple of weeks on the things that I want to encourage the cats to scratch (like the cat tree instead of my sofa). When something is freshly sprayed, they go a little nuts for it but settle down after a bit. I imagine this would work great for refreshing catnip filled soft toys. Make certain not to spray anything you don't want your kitties scratching! Personally, I find the scent a little off-putting but both the cats like it. A little goes a long way - I only put a few drops into a 6oz or so spray bottle of water and that solution lasts me quite a while as you only need to spray a tiny bit to draw them to something.

attracts cats / repels insects (?)
Bought this for making an insect repellent. . . I'm still not sure how well it works to keep away mosquitoes, but it DEFINITELY attracts CATS. Without thinking I put some drops on my wrists and ankles. Within minutes of arriving at a house with an 18 yo cat, the cat was licking my ankles. I didn't put two and two together, so fast forward to the following week, same deal different house, 1yo cat BIT my ankle within three minutes of arrival. I took off my shoes to hide my ankles under me and the cat playfully attacked my shoes. . . then sat next to me the rest of the evening. I definitely will try it out on more cats in the near future, but I probably wouldn't recommend it in circumstances where you will be wearing a lot of oil around feral or wild cats, just to be safe. In short, if you love cats this is the best oil for you.

Potent!
Works very well! Used in a natural bug repellent blend, as I’m a magnet for biting insects but prefer DEET-free methods. Kept the bugs away on a hike and my cat followed me around the house more than usual.

I don't have a comparison
I bought it to make insect spray. Funky smelling, but that's the way catnip oil smells. It does keep the deer flies down.I haven't tried any other brand, so I don't know if there's something better.I'm happy enough with it. Geranium oil masks the smell, and it also repels mosquitos.I have cats. They didn't go mad when I opened the bottle. Both like catnip toys. The oil doesn't smell like dried catnip.I don't think it's meant for cats. I think it should be seen an an essential oil for external application. Good insect repellant.
