Good splitter
I like this splitter. It works well for any size headphone jack (that's 3.5 mm). What I mean is that my huge monitoring headphones fit in it as well as small portable earbuds. Also, I love the volume control. The control is a simple wheel that has a tactile feel and stays in place. The best part of the splitter is that I can listen to music with my pair of headphones and put another pair next to my cat, as to not bother the people around me. (We both have impeccable taste for operatic sopranos that no one else seems to appreciate. Highly recommend Wagner's Ring Cycle!)Overall, great product and I can see it lasting for a long time. I might recommend a small soft body pouch to put it in because all jack receivers have a tendency to collect fuzz.

Great solution for normal hearing / hearing impaired couple
My husband is severely hearing impaired and I have good hearing. We sometimes enjoy watching a TV show on my computer after our daughter goes to bed but in our tiny condo need to use headphones so the noise doesn't wake her up. This volume control splitter is GREAT for us! We each can hear our show at a comfortable level - he can't hear our alarm clock without hearing aids, but can hear our shows fine with the computer volume and the splitter's volume dial turned all the way up. I turn my volume dial most of the way down and it's fine. The sound seems equally good using this splitter as it usually does with the headphones that I use with it.I even use this splitter when I'm listening to something by myself now too, because the volume wheel give so much more in-between variations of volume than just clicking the computer's volume up & down.I removed one star because it is a pretty fragile unit. Even with careful use I guess some pulling must occur because the wires at the base always eventually separate from the plug part and it stops working. Because it's otherwise such a helpful product for our particular needs and because the price point is low, it's not a deal breaker for us.

A great solution to a possibly expensive problem. 4/5
This item actually surprised me in how well it functions.I needed this headphone splitter so that i could control the volume coming from my TV when my headphones are plugged into it. This little cord solved that problem and i know many people could benefit from that. I did take one star off because the quality while it works now, the build quality does seem slightly low. Although for the price of $4, i would not be upset if this broke after a solid 6-8 months of use. You get what you pay for and I'm confident this will last atlas that long, and I've had great experience with mono price items in the past.Pros:1. Cheap2. Worked right out of the box3. two separate volume controllers for each headphone4. Cheaper than competitorsCons:1. Build quality doesn't seem the highestConclusionIt was only $4 and i feel that for the price this is a great product. It solved my problem and also allowed me to have extra volume control of another item plugged into the second headphone jack. For the price, i would most definitely recommend the item.

does exactly what it needs to do
So far, I have only tested these for a few minutes and they work with my tablets and cell phones in combination with several different in-ear and on-ear headphones. I expect that they will work fine for extended listening as planned. Purchased mostly for sharing one tablet to watch movies on airplanes. I would have also liked to use them for skype calls but they won't pass the microphone signal for my headphones with integrated microphone. Since the specs don't claim it will work with integrated microphones I did not lower the rating for this.Overall, a nice adapter at a reasonable price. Individual volume controls are a must have since all headphones produce different volumes and all listeners have different volume needs. Would have given a 5 rating if they were a bit more heavy duty and if the jack was 90 degrees. I don't like how far straight jacks extend from tablets and phones, it's too easy to accidentally bump the jack and damage the receptacle on the expensive to repair phone or tablet.

Works fine, but the wires are really thin
I really like that this splitter has separate volume controls for each jack. The controls work smoothly and don't seem to affect the sound (besides changing the volume). For the most part, changing the volume of one jack has little effect on the other one, except at one point near the bottom of the range where it causes the other side to nearly cut out (it happens both ways). That won't hurt anything 99% of the time, as I wouldn't expect either side to get turned down that far.I was surprised to see a four-conductor plug on the splitter, the kind you might see on cell phone headphones that also include a mic. I used it with a typical three-conductor audio source and normal headphones and it worked fine.My only complaint is that the wires are quite thin and I am afraid that they won't be durable enough to last. On the other hand, the strain reliefs are also quite flexible (as they should be), which helps take some strain off of the wires.

Works, with a catch.
I purchased these so I could share music and the audio from video while on a trip with a friend. They work, but we had a couple of issues. First, the range through which you could change the volume is limited. Second, adjusting the volume on one side adjusted the balance on the other. When my friend adjusted her volume, my music got louder in one ear and/or quieter in the other. The same thing happened to her when I adjusted my volume. However, the difference wasn't very noticeable when the volume wasn't actually in the process of being adjusted, but it was annoying while it happened. For the price, I don't think the splitters are too bad. I actually chose the ones with separate volume controls because of their extra length, not for the ability to adjust either side's volume separately (my headphones have their own volume control). Others might be more bothered by the volume issues than I was though.

Perfect for couples
There aren't too many examples of a headphone splitter, and far fewer with individual volume controls, which sealed the deal for me.At £2.50 it's difficult to beat - there are many more 'stylish' options at much higher prices, but this is really a utility product, not a fashion statement. As to be expected from the price, the build quality isn't great - the cables are thin and the plastic feels a bit cheap, but they aren't major gripes. We use it for train journeys between London and Manchester where we catch up on Podcasts, for which it couldn't be better.Definitely recommended - especially for the volume controls.

Not usable as female-female connector.
Although admittedly not advertised as a female-female 3.5mm connecter, I was disappointed to find out that it didn't work as such. I imagine there's some sort of diode used in the volume controllers which prohibits this.Otherwise, merely as a headphone splitter it works extremely well and would have gained five stars were it not for the aforementioned reason. It transmits iPhone play/pause, and volume up/down signals perfectly, and therefore likely functions with the microphone too, although this remains untested by me.The connectors are solid and assuring, my headphones click securely in place, so does the male end of the splitters click securely into any headphone socket I present with it. The wires are perhaps a little thinner than I'd like and seem potentially fragile, especially with the fairly chunky volume controls attached to them, but they have thus far worked perfectly.Long story short; works fine, shame there is no direct connection between female ends.

Does exactly what it says, and the individual volume controls are actually really useful
I was really just looking for a well-reviewed headphone splitter (for the modern romance that is watching DVD box sets together on the train!) and was a bit sceptical of the need for the individual volume controls. In the end, this does exactly what you want - it splits the headphones (and the stereo) clearly, correctly and effectively. And actually the separate volume controls are useful, especially when my hearing (at 29!) and headphones mean that I want it louder than the lovely girlfriend. Although actually, maybe I should start turning it down - can ears recover?

useful volume control
I needed to increase the volume on my iPod because it only goes up so far but I also wanted an earphone splitter to share music with my friends. I bought this as the price was right, it increases the volume a good amount. After a few weeks my iPod would skip and pause tracks when the splitter was attached. I'm not sure how much of the problem could be attributed to the splitter as it's working well now, but the wiring needs to be kept straight or it loses some sound. I only use it at the gym now to block out their music and it is quite loud over the gym machines. I've got another attachment now that I use with my iPod when I'm out.I don't get regret buying this as its still useful to me.

Good sound and independant volume control makes this a winner.
Excellent product. We bought another type of "splitter" and although it was very good and the sound was excellent the bonus on this one is the fact that you can alter the sound to each set of headphones, my husband likes things loud I am not so keen so this is perfect. It doesn't go up too loud but it does make a difference, I don't know how they can do it for the price. If you are after a "splitter" then do not hesitate to go for this one its brilliant.
