which is nice. The "arm" that the speaker is mounted to ...
My purpose for this purchase was to install 2 wall mounted and 2 ceiling mounted surround sound speakers on single gang wall boxes so I bought 4 of these mounts. I did not use the included hardware to attach the mounts right into the wall itself as I pre-wired my room during construction. The speakers I mounted are approximately 3 pounds in weight and 6"x4"x4". These mounts had no problem handling the size or weight of the speakers. Each mount comes with a variety of hardware for a variety of installation configurations and speakers. You will have a fair amount of hardware pieces left but most likely the kit has what you need for your job, which is nice. The "arm" that the speaker is mounted to has several parts and they are tightened and adjusted with small allen screws. It took me a few minutes reading the instructions to comprehend how the arm works but it is straightforward and works well. Some fine tuning was needed to get the speakers pointed exactly who I wanted them but I was able to do that easily. The ceiling mounted speakers worked great, too. There is an extension bar for ceiling mount and allowed me to point the speakers down at approximately 45 degrees. Combining the speaker mount with the speaker wire plate is very nice - I think the aesthetics are good and the install looks clean.

My friend had surround wires built into her ceiling so I decided to find the perfect, stylish mounts
I bought and returned a set of SIIG universal mounts from Frys, then I purchased these mounts based on the fact that they are designed to fit right into a single gang electrical box, which they did. My friend had surround wires built into her ceiling so I decided to find the perfect, stylish mounts. I looked on Amazon and Google images for the cleanest, simplest solution and decided on Pinpoint. They are not sold in any of the local stores I called, which was about 10 home theater/Magnolia type stores. They are sturdy and well-built. I bought an Onkyo Home Theater system and when I went to install the speakers with these mounts I found that the mounting hardware did not have the right size pin for the keyhole in the speakers. They include a well designed custom two-piece nut and bolt but it was a bit too large in diameter, it was a #8 screw so I bought #6 screws, nuts and lock washers at HD. This is no fault of either Onkyo or Pinpoint, since it is not possible to include every single size of mounting pin for every mounting configuration but it would be nice if either of them had at least two different size mounts since some folks don't have the mechanical aptitude or patience to jerry-rig a new design. A trip to your local hardware store to find the right hardware BEFORE you climb up a rickety ladder will be well worth it. I don't have a mechanical engineering degree but I am mechanically inclined and I am a perfectionist, bordering on OCD, and I am sure there is a reason that the mounting plate has a slight curvature to it but I can find no documentation as to why. Maybe someone reading this review will know the reason why it has this concave fit. I would give these mounts 5 stars but for the lack of an extra size mounting pin and if the mounting adapter were flat and not curved. My friend is ecstatic with her new speaker system mounted on her ceiling. Now I need to install some wire covers and cable-tie them to the mounting pole to give the install a professional appearance. May update this review later if any new developments arise.

Can't support rated weight
I have these mounts in my living room and in my theater, and for small satellites in the living room (~1 lb) they work well, but for the Polk TSi 100 speakers I've mounted using these in my theater, the mounts are just inadequate. They've sagged since the initial install and I've had to go up and loosen, lift the speaker, and tighten the bolts that clamp the ball in the mount repeatedly. Finally today I went to do this again and the screw on the bottom of the mount wouldn't tighten and shards of metal fell out. I removed the screw and see that the hole is stripped. It needs to be retapped and a larger screw fitted. But I'm thinking that even doing this won't really make this mount a good solution. If you're mounting speakers that are tiny (think Bose, or one of those small Polk 5.1 sets; I forget the names) then these mounts are great, but don't believe the manufacturer's specs on the amount of weight they should support.

Does the job
I needed a speaker mount that would fit my new Martin Logan Motion 2 speakers *and* would attach to an electrical box in the wall. These fit the bill... just. The mounts come with a variety of hardware to attach to a variety of wall types and a variety of speakers. They fit my criteria, but don't be surprised if you have a lot of parts left over!Attachment to the wall, directly or using an electrical box, is secure and neat. Supplied hardware is great.Since the Motion 2s have a curved back, the attachment to the speaker itself isn't nearly as secure as I'd like, and the interconnect between the speaker and the wall is not terribly secure. Its a ball mount held in place with a couple of small screws and it's all rather flimsy. So it does the job, but it's nothing special.
