I called launchtech usa and they told me that this version (V+) is a knock off. Is this correct?

No! This scan tool is not a knock-off. It is Made in China by Launch Tech. However, I called Launch Tech USA and was told that this scan tool is in fact made by Launch Tech but that each country has a main distributor. This one is not even available by the US distributor and does much more. It was meant to be sold in countries outside the USA according to the Launch Tech USA representative. I spoke with. Of course, the USA distributor wants much more money for a lesser performing scan tool. If the seller can support the warranty and updates I say go for this one!

Details as follows: 1.LAUNCH X431 V+ supports the guided function of VW, AUDI, SKODA, SEAT, but X431 V does not support it. 2.LAUNCH X431 V+ is compatible with LAUNCH X431 heavy duty modules (need to be purchased separately) and becomes a diesel-integrated diagnostic device with more powerful functions. LAUNCH X431 V Pro is not compatible with heavy-duty module. When you need to diagnose heavy-duty trucks, you need to purchase the heavy-duty full system diagnostic tool for $1,849 if you have a V. However, if you have X431 V+, you only needs to purchase the heavy-duty module for $949, which is more economical and convenient. 3.The screen size of LAUNCH X431 V+ (10.1 inches) is larger than that of V (8 inches).
