Excellent book to who wants to understand how to program SIEMENS PLCs
Is an excellent book, a very good reading to who is starting with Siemens PLC technology and also to who already know it. I purchased also the other book of some authors, with the Blue cover: Siemens SImenes Step 7 (TIA Portal) a Practical and Understandable Approach and didn't see any difference between both, they are the same book with the same amount of pages and the same chapters starting at the same page, the difference is that one is a little bit more expensive than the other.I have two concerns about both books:1) the lack of a remissive index at the end of the book should help to find similar items through the book.2) at the end of each chapter you will find a quiz about the specific chapter. At the end of the book, you will find all the answers of those quizzes but only for the even questions, the odd ones aren't present. Strange isn't.But despite those two comments I recumbent the book.

Good source of information but suffers from typos and poor formattting.
This book is a good source of information about Siemens PLCs in general, as well as discussing TIA Portal. I have quite a bit of experience with Step-7 Classic and still learned a lot (and was reminded of several things I'd forgotten as well). Having said that, I had to deduct 1 star because the book suffers from very poor formatting, as well as quite a few typos that might be confusing to newcomers. If the authors could make another pass at this and fix those issues, then this would be a truly excellent book.

Dry, many typos, no publisher noted
I did not expect an easy read for this type of book but the writing was overly dry, written by a programmer, not a book writer. There are many typos which are very distracting to a detailed person (who would be the type of person reading this book.) The book does not note any publisher nor is there any contact info. It is therefor not likely to ever get the thorough update that a technical book deserves. My book is very marked up with typos but every reader will suffer through them on their own. :-(The book seriously deserves an index but alas, it has none. If you want to search for all the types of Timers that Step 7 has, you want to look in the index, see all the types, and know on what page each type is explained. Indexes are soooo easy to do with today's writing programs. While the title of the book alludes to a very specific audience who are interested in Siemens Step 7, the book instead seeks to want admiration for it number of pages. With many, many pages detailing programming instructions that are widely used in every PLC environment (Return, Jump, Label, etc), the user is forced to search out the specific issues of the Siemens product. The title states 'Practical Approach'! Nope. This book could be great if it really spoke to the product it was declaring itself to be and left all of the universal PLC stuff to other 'beginner' books that abound and will likely have already been read before someone buys this book.I end this mini review by sharing one of the non-edited statements in the book. Pg 85 "If forces are active, the Maintenance LED will blink (See Figure 3-58). Do not look to Figure 3-58 and expect to see the LED blinking. ;-) But you will find that the colour screenshots have been converted to grey scale and you won't really be able to see that the Maintenance LED is lit.BTW, the opportunity for edits to the book are possible as there are not hundreds or thousands of the books sitting on the shelf from the last printing. Each book is individually printed when ordered! Ain't technology sweet?!

and it's annoying that the answer key only includes even number Chapter ...
I'm currently using this book for a SIEMENS STEP 7 class, and it's annoying that the answer key only includes even number Chapter Review questions. Odd number answers are not included. What is the purpose of this ? I realize the authors of this book are knowledgeable people, in their area of automation ... but little things like this further prove, that acquiring knowledge and having common sense, don't go hand in hand. It slows down the students learning process ... stupid move. Can't wait to be done with this class & book.
