A great upgrade
One of my mini Mag-Lites was damaged by battery leakage on the spring and would no longer power on. I purchased the Nite Ize not only for the LED feature but also to replace the bottom cap assembly. This solution was less expensive than purchasing the OEM part, and gave me a much brighter flashlight as well!Installing the bulb consists of unscrewing the head of the flashlight, pulling out the bulb and conical reflector and replacing these items with the new parts. It's important to note that the freely turning base disk that holds the original bulb does not come out (it even says "do not remove"), even though the new LED comes with its own similar-looking disc. I mistakenly thought that the new disk would replace the old one, but unfortunately it doesn't work this way; the new disk, with the LED embedded into it, presses into the old disk and thus the bulb assembly is now about 2mm longer than before. If it doesn't work at first, you need to pull it out again and reverse the position to reverse the polarity; you have a 50% chance of getting it right the first time. Then you replace the head of the flashlight and screw it on as much as it allows, which you should be aware is less than before. To turn on the flashlight, you either use the new button on the base or the regular twist-on switch. I love the button because it allows me to switch on the flashlight with one hand, convenient when my other hand is holding a screwdriver or whatever. Others have noted that the button seems flimsy. I've only had this unit a few days so cannot comment on its long term serviceability but for now it works great. If you store your new, improved Mag Mini in your glove compartment, I would recommend twisting it off, because the button is fairly sensitive and it might switch on while bouncing and rolling around. The LED makes the flashlight brighter than before, but not quite as bright as a regular LED Mag Mini. Is it worth the money? I think so. Some of these cheaper LED flashlights seem to die after a few weeks of use, whereas the Mags just keep on working (until the battery leaks).

I don't know how I lived without this!
I've used a Mini Mag-lights with two AA batteries for many years. They are sturdy and reliable. The incandescent bulb in the original version eventually burns out, but there's always been a spare in the tail end cap (until you use that one and then forget to replace it). One thing I never liked was that, to turn the light on or off, one had to twist the headpiece, which changed the focus of the flashlight.I bought this kit over a year ago, and I have to say it's a great retrofit. The kit includes a replacement reflector, an LED bulb, and a tail cap with a pushbutton switch in it. It just takes a couple of minutes to install. The light is about 100% brighter, the bulb has lasted much longer than incandescent bulbs did (maybe it'll last forever), the batteries last much longer, and there's no more de-focusing to turn on and off. My opinion: all positives, no negatives, and it pays for itself quickly in reduced battery and bulb replacement costs.

Led replacement light
Bulb and switch were very easy to install and work very well. Flashlight is back in working order and better than new.

well over the last 2 decades, I have about every maglight, you can have. 7 -cell d's to little 1aaa battery key chains. heck I have 2 , GWH Bush, double A's, given out, for FREE, at the thousand points of light, speech, on the Washington Dc mall.in "88'! { went thru line twice.. nice box , they came in, presidential seal..included, not for sale ..lol. point.. to make.. over the years, I have seen many bulb inprovements. Krypton, Xenon to .. improved, reflectors, etc etc etc. Well sir, I have something tossing CROW,about! with its new This little bulb , with it's new reflector, is so bright, its as bright, as a flash, Bulb, on a old style, camera. has the same sheen as the new reflector, lights, on the latest's automobiles.. it hurts your eyes, at 20-30 feet.. blinding you... focus, is exceptional, esp, on a tight beam.. perfect circle, no stray light, outside the cone of focus..One is now in my wifes, purse, {she loves It}.. I have mounted, two on the defensive weps , for home defense, pistol / rifle. seems to impervious to shock, up to .40 s&w.. hard to find ammo, Now.. what's up with that?the switch. is strong. I have done over 300 cycles.. no failure. I use lithium, batterys. always. it is claimed, 25 hours, of burn, on alkaline, the new lithium's,, claim up to 8 times,more.. unreal. No lanyard, hole, not a factor in my apps..I put my word on it.. this, is awesome.. awesome , is an overused word, but it works here.. i was "SKEPTICAL", AFTER DECADES , of small inprovements.. this shatters the bar..ladies and gentleman....drop in leds just don't burn out..so give it a try.
