Very likeable movie
The Bandidas are an unlikely couple of blundering would-be bandits. After a tough training they get really good at it. Makes you want for sequel, and more bandidas.

A lighthearted story with an embarrassingly poor script and production
A lighthearted story with an embarrassingly poor script and production. The result is perfectly watchable and entertaining but well below what you might expect from a film featuring actors of this caliber.

“I knew she had talent!” [Bill Buck]
In this 2006 comedy action western set in Mexico during the 1890s, Sara Sandoval (Salma Hayek) and María Álvarez (Penélope Cruz) are complete opposites who team up to get revenge on the cruel U.S. land baron, Tyler Jackson (Dwight Yoakam) who is terrorising the nearby territories and is in effect ‘legally’ stealing the land. The acting is over the top, every scene over dramatic, the jokes and situations clichéd , but that’s its charm. This is full of slapstick, sitcom fun and shouldn’t be taken seriously, although there is a social message behind it all. The two female leads work well together as the mis-matched allies, ‘girl fights’ and water dunkings included. The scenery and photography are outstanding, the music quirky and suitably ‘western’ enough and the overall sound level loud with a strong surround sound. What more do you want? The disc offers play, scene selection, set up [5.1/2.0] and special features [making of, interviews, trailer 1 & 2]. Rated 15 this has a lot of cussing, a mans naked buttocks are seen and another urinates against a wall, but there is a sexually charged comic bondage scene that may prove uncomfortable for some parents watching with younger children, as might the passionate kissing and abundant cleavage. If you like the Zorro movies or films like ‘Romancing the Stone’ or ‘Bad Girls’ then the humour may appeal and it’s sure to raise a few laughs. Worth watching for Maria’ clever horse [I know….. it’s only acting!]

Good
Good film good story. Felt a bit rushed in the making. Voices have a slight echo in places. Excellent partnership Heyak and Cruz. Fun film.

best action and bank robbery movie yet
F...ing brilliant and fantastic. Cruz and Hayek make a wicked pair of bank robbers, and the presence of Steve Zahn as a New York detective who soons becomes involved with the Bandidas'- Maria and Sara- cause makes the film all the more eventful. Second movie for Zahn and Cruz together, first one being Sahara. So pleased that two women are the robbers, not men as has constantly been so in many movies before. This is a movie worth watching for all action fans. Only two criticisms: film ended with the Bandidas heading off for Europe to rob its banks- should've done a second one; and I would've loved to read an actual novel about this.Get this and watch it to the very end. Is my favourite action/bank robbery movie and will always be! Cruz, Hayek, so wanna meet you one day and get a photo with you two- dressed like your characters for this film.
