Great idea and it works!
This is a great bag! I wanted a small EDC bag. Didn't think it would be so hard to find. Seems everything small ends up being a sling bag and I wanted a dual strap regular type backpack. Well, this is it! This one does both. It isn't the greatest full backpack and I wouldn't want to go on a long trek with it as the straps are pretty narrow and would dig in (I feel) over time but that's not what this pack is for. This is the perfect take everywhere pack and can be carried multiple ways. What a fantastic design putting in the zipper to split it into dual use pack!Very sturdy and quality built. That's why I love Maxpedition gear. You can count on it being heavy duty.

Maxpedition goes Urban
This is a nice, tough sling bag/backpack which would do well as a get-home bag or BOB for someone in an urban area. It's understated enough--not so tactical-looking as to draw a lot of attention to itself and to you. I bought it with the idea of using it as a gear bag for ham radio outings, and possibly short-term emergency communication scenarios. I haven't even begun to break this in--I'll update this review when that begins to happen.

Great concept, but not for me
This is a 3 star review based upon my body type. I love the pack- and wanted it to work out for me, but I am a big guy- and it was just too tight across my 50 inch chest when using it cross body sling style. Anyone of average height and weight (plus or minus) should be OK using this. This isn't a rating of the pack itself- like all Maxpedition stuff it is built to take on anything- and the concept is great- just isn't going to work for me. My wife also tried it to see what she thought. She is about 5' 9", and has a larger bust. Didn't work for her, either.

The materials are great though.
The Strap was sewn on incorrectly. One side is twisted. The materials are great though.

This pack rocks!!!!!!! MUST HAVE!
Maxpedition has outdone themselves!! i have a bad back and bad knees. This pack is perfect for a quick on the go jaunt anywhere. With the option of a sling bag or a standard back pack, this bag is my total go to bag! its comfortable and ready to go. I did order the first one and there was a bad rip in the bottom. Amazon quickly replaced the pack. No charge they even gave me a promotional credit for the ripped bag. In this case Amazon stepped up and made it right! THANKS AMAZON! I love this pack, I cant say enough about it!There is only one thing that you need to consider when getting this pack, if you are a large person, the sling bag option wont fit comfortably. I made an extension for this as shown in the pictures. Other than that, this bag is by far the best that I own!!!I added a Maxpedition Janus Pouch to the top of my straps for extra storage room.. As well as i added a few morale patches to the pack. It is very customizable and really suit my needs! I would highly recommend this pack!-JP

Makes a great Day Pack!
I've had this pack for over a week now, and have been quite impressed. As a day pack (something to carry a 40 oz. canteen, first aid kit, flashlight, poncho, bug spray, hand sanitizer, and several other odds & ends), it has worked out really well. I spent the first few days primarily using it as a versipack (single-strap), and the last few days mostly using it as a backpack, and have found it comfortable to carry both ways.If you're looking for an overnight pack, you'll probably want something larger. And if you're looking for something to carry a laptop or tablet, I'd recommend something from Maxpedition's Incognito line. But if you're looking for a small day pack to just carry a few essentials, I don't think you can go wrong with the Duality. As with any Maxpedition product, the quality is outstanding. Plus it has two of their newer features: An adjustable drawbridge on the front pocket, and a fast-opening strap on the center pocket, which are both very nice. And I've enjoyed the versatility of the sling system even more than I anticipated.I was initially only going to use the Duality for hiking. But if it keeps growing on me, it may replace the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack as my Every Day Carry.

Really nice case, but not for a laptop
This backpack is of excellent quality and is generally as described, but some of the comments about the size of laptop it will accommodate are misleading. Questions and responses indicate that it will handle a 13" laptop, and one response from either the manufacturer or reseller says that it handles a 13.5" laptop. My laptop is 13" and it will fit in the backpack but ONLY with a lot of tugging and pulling and pushing. Yes, it will eventually get in there, but I'm not willing to go through five minutes of pulling and pushing and taking everything else out of the bag to do it. For an average sized tablet it would be fine, but not for a laptop.
