Inviting
How to Start, Run, and Grow a Reputable & Profitable Pawnshop Business: Become a Successful Pawnbroker: Learn How to Deal in Gold, Silver, Jewelry, Antiques, Guns, Collectibles & Electronics by Carl Eddlemon is a thorough and inviting book. Every step of the way is shown through details and vibrant pictures. I would highly suggest this book if you are even considering opening a pawn store or just want to know more about it. The author begins with a detailed history of pawn stores, that history being fascinating and enough to make you want to read more. Some of the bright pictures are photographs and some are illustrations. One cool term in the detailed history noted, for example, is pawnbroking, which I had not heard of. The author moves to illustrating the current facets of “pawnbroking” and the original term “pawn.” Then the author leads the reader through regulations and negotiating loans, according to the worth of the item to how to evaluate the item to how to determine the percentage concerning the loan for the item according to the value of the item to how to evaluate the item to how to outright buy it, such as, say it is jewelry or tools. And “jewelry to tools” would be an accurate way to describe the range of the items the pawnbroker would deal in and with. The author takes us through each step in setting up the business in a detailed fashion, such as insurance needed and how every item, such as guns, silver, and jewelry, should be handled state to state. He shows you how to research all items both online and offline. He gives you some great advice I wouldn’t have thought of which is to know and tell the story behind each item because buyers love to hear these and it makes them more likely to buy the item if its history is attached, just like it made me excited to read the history of the pawnshop in this book. One of the other things I love about this book is the advice the author gives about how to display, promote, advertise and inventory your items. And he finally details laws concerning your new business, especially how they work in your area.

A Thorough Guide
I have been thinking about starting my own pawn shop for quite a few years. Every time I would start getting the process going I would get overwhelmed by a list of things to do, and what order to do them in - not to mention all the legal requirements. Reading this eased my mind and put everything into simple steps for me. It laid out the laws by state as well. Everything from licensing, business plans, budgeting, hiring and retention, and online marketing was included. Now I'm nearer to my goal and a lot more organized, and less stressed. It has been really helpful to have a lot of this great information in one easy guide instead of doing endless research over 30 topics on the internet! Thank you!

Not worth publishing.
Unfortunately there is no information in this book you can’t get by walking through any retail store.
