I bought this 2 years ago to hold LP records and it's held up very well. I worried the shelves, about 5/8" thick, might bow with the weight of the LPs but they haven't at all. The parts are real wood, shipped from Vietnam, and it looks so much better than the Ikea Expedit cube shelf I have.The wood did have a very strong varnish odor when I opened it but that dissipated in about a week.It was also a lot of work to put together. I did it by myself but some sections are tricky to assemble and having a second person would help a lot. Drilling and screwing the backing board on took a LOT of time. Still, the effort was worth it for the price.If you didn't put the backing board on, this would actually disassemble very easily if you needed to move it - but then it wouldn't be as strong. Once the backing board is on, I wouldn't want to try to disassemble the bookcase, I'd move it in one piece.

It sure is pretty, in the right light when you can't see all the imperfections it shipped with. Some chips, some cracks during construction from using a totally reasonable amount of force, couple of scratches from the thing falling apart while putting it together because of some bizarre design choices.At the end of the day I have something that looks nicer than an Ikea unit if it is in the right light from the right angle. But for the money, I wish I'd gotten two Ikea units instead as I need another one but there is no way I am going to buy another one of these.

Super cheap. Wood is so soft I dented it leaning it on my leg while putting it together. The center pieces have no pegs to hold them. Just tiny nubs they rest on while you try to put it together. Impossible to assemble with just 1 person. I have put together a lot of furniture, and this one had all kinds of colorful words coming out of my mouth. The stain was uneven and had some spots that were missed entirely. Part of the wood was chipped Although it was packed very well. I have no idea what kind of wood this, but it is very fragile.

We bought this item to put in our dining-room-turned-playroom to hold my daughter's toys and books. We debated buying a more expensive item elsewhere but decided to go with this one since we probably won't use it forever and it will likely get banged up by kids anyway. This piece isn't perfect, but I think we made the right choice for the price.As other reviewers have commented, this sides and shelves of this bookcase look pretty nice but the back is made of rough, thin pieces. We had a few issues with our unit:- the top piece didn't have the molding glued on one side (just nailed) and even re-gluing & clamping it ourselves didn't make it line up well- one of the holes in the bookcase side panel wasn't drilled far enough so when we screwed the shelf piece into it it knocked a small hole through to the outside of the bookcase (we had to glue the piece that popped out back in and doctor it up to try to hide this since it was really obvious)- when screwing the back pieces onto the bookshelf, one of the shelves cracked at the back where the screw went into itAlso we had to use a power drill to drill several of the holes to get the back piece on.For the price and what we're using it for, I think this unit is okay. It definitely looks better than the cheap storage units I've seen at big box stores, but not as nice as furniture store bookcases (which would be delivered fully assembled to ensure it's assembled well!). The shelves and sides are pine, so it is made from solid wood.Bottom line: you are getting what you pay for. If you want a beautiful piece for displaying your prized possessions, you may want to invest in a better piece. If you are just going to use it for kids toys or for books & files in a home office, this is probably just fine.

The bookcase is very nice. I love the color. It has some odd disclorations in spots, but it sort of adds to the character of the piece. Here's the BIG but, I am having a HORRIBLE time finding bins that fit the cubes. I bought this with the mindset that I would use cube storage bins to store all the little things my kids leave laying around and I would be more organized. I've searched high and low and the only place that I've found the perfect size bins is Ikea and I don't love the pattern they are in. The bookcase needs approximately 12" square bins. They could be higher in height, but good luck finding them. So, my advice to you, don't think you'll find the perfect size bins to fit each cube. Either use the bookcase without bins or be prepared to use a mismash of different size bins.

The instructions for assembly cannot be followed as the uprights, which are free floating inside small pre drilled holes are not secure enough to attach the sides as instructed. We had to wing it with each of the 4 bookcases we bought, as what worked for one bookcaser wouldn't fly for another. Also note that there are no predrilled holes for the backs on the bookcase itself to accomodate the backs. The instructions note that there are holes on each of the 3 back units, but there are no holes on the bookcase itself-36 opportuinities per unit to have a less than perfect result. Customer service was dissappointing. That is a design flaw. The bookcases themselves are pretty and sturdy. Shame that they missed this small step.

I purchased (2) bookcases.#1: Excellent piece of furniture. Assembly is relatively easy (90 minutes is what it took us). Solid pine is much more sturdy and easier to assemble than particle board furniture that we have assembled in the past.#2: Top piece didn't fit correctly ((6) holes were all offset by ~1"). Able to drill new holes to make it work, but in the process ended up with a couple of cosmetic cracks and gaps. Still nice furniture for the price, but where is the automated process and QA to get all the holes right on every shipment? E-mailed Simpli Home a week ago requesting replacement parts, and still no response. Where is the customer service?

Good overall, but on the top lefthand size, the prehand drill holes were too deep and caused holes in the outside. Other than that, it is a nice piece for my kids room. Pictures show it just put together.

This bookcase is available on several websites, but I actually purchased it on Amazon. I had many second thoughts about this as the reviews concerning assembly were quite negative, but I thought, it's a cube, how difficult can that be!! There were comments that the instructions we vague and the quality of the wood split easily, etc. etc. I have to say, I was able to assemble it without even looking at the instructions!! I am a 60 year old female, and have been pretty mechanical minded over the years but it really is very easy to assemble!! Yes, you need a second person to help steady the unit as you put it together, but I really think if I had to, I could manage it myself. I am so pleased that I took the chance and ordered it!! The wood is beautiful, the construction is very sturdy and it makes an elegant addition to my living room. Nothing negative to say here!! I love it!!

I was actually excited to write this review as the purchase exceeded all my expectations. It also shipped extremely fast.The quality of the pieces in color and detailing were spot on. It also has a nice weight to it as well.The assembly was not a problem either and I was skeptical as I read reviews on other sites about this unit. I am not a very handy guy when it comes to building things but I suppose a little common sense goes a long way. The pieces were labeled and the smaller packages were numbered. They really eliminated the guess work.I look forward to adding more of their pieces to my home. I definitely lucked out on this one with price but I can say that it is worth every penny. I'm attaching some photos as I find they are always helpful when visualing in your home.

Very nice unit - solid wood and well packaged. I found it very easy to assemble; it took me just over an hour. A very nice addition to our entry area of our house. Recommended.Please note that I purchased mine as a "Used - Very Good" item from Warehouse Deals for the steal price of $110. The box had some cosmetic damage and had been refused by the previous buyer. But due to the excellent packaging, there was no damage to the product.

I bought this bookcase to act as a record shelf, and it was perfect. Sturdily constructed, it can hold all the weight of my entire record collection without issue. Arguably, this shelf is designed for records.

this gives me room to add to my collection and it looks good.
