Happiness is a Log Cabin Quilt....that I can UNDERSTAND
I read on several blogs about this book coming out. The people were all very excited about the book and were very positive...and knew of the author. I had not heard of the author and I have quite a few books already but I was drawn by the fact that they said this was a Log Cabin book that actually taught you 'how to' create a Log Cabin Quilt. That was what motivated me to spend the money on another book. I was not disappointed and since having received the book I have been having alot of fun......planning the Log Cabin Quilt...of my future. I recommend this book to beginners...with 'a little experience'....not brand new to making quilts. That is where I fit in...and I know that had I read this book two years ago I could not have used it. I would have been confused by the terminology. I think this was a good book to have written....I think there was a need for this book...so I am most pleased with the book......it arrived quickly and safely. My experience was a good one...and I look forward to using the book.

Rev Up the Sewing Machine!
I was charmed by the first image... and it only got better from there. I typically don't buy many craft books without having a glance through beforehand; I took a chance and glad I did! Great contemporary quilting style! The projects include quilts (of course), pillows, camera case, totes, small bags, pin cushions, tea towels, pot holders and more--- so many cute patterns for folks who want to try quilting for the first time. Plus, the quilts are so inspiring that seasoned sewers will be thrilled too! I am inspired to adapt several of the patterns into other projects like table runners, seat cushions, teapot cozys and the list goes on! There is a great section of techniques and suggestions. Everything seems straight forward and instructions clear. The fabrics used are modern and fresh, byt the designs are really at the core of the book's inspiration! I am completely ready to sift through my scraps and leftovers for smaller projects and hit the fabric stores for a regular sized quilt! A keeper for crafty folks!

Cute
The patterns are fairly simple, but enjoyable to make and look good. The patterns look so different and complexed depending on the fabric used. If you like the log cabin pattern-this is definitely the book for you. My favorite and best patterns is on the front cover.

Great quilting book for all skill levels
I just got my long-awaited copy of Modern Log Cabin Quilting this week, and I can't wait to start sewing-- the only problem is deciding which project to do first. All of the designs are beautiful and inspiring-- approachable for beginners and launching boards for more experienced quilters to take the basics and put their own spin on the patterns. The layout is clean and clear with tons of tips, and the language and instructions are easy to follow and understand. The care and thoughtfulness put into each pattern is apparent-- the author's love for fabric, sewing, quilting (and log-cabining, of course), and making a cozy home really shines through on every page. I am also a knitter/crafter and have bought tons of pattern books that look pretty in the bookstore, but I really only want to make 1 or 2 of the projects once I look more closely at them. With this book, the only reason I wouldn't make every single one is that I don't have enough free time (or enough beds!) to do all that sewing.

A lot of words to say so little
Started of well with information on log cabin variations and putting the sewing together. The rest was the projects which were very detailed in the process......again and again Infiniti with numbered diagrams of log cabin - what photographs that there were are tiny (sure I could zoom in with the kindle) but even then they were basic. The projects consisted of log cabin square made into cushion purse and one pocket etc which a child could accomplish. Simple did my lie in the title. The couple of quilts again were basic with lots of instructions how do for the simplest procedure. A few trees could have been saved with more and better pictures and less of the written word.

Great book w/lots of inspriing photos-worth the purchase!
I was hesitant to purchase this book since a log cabin block is easy to make and a pattern is not needed. The book continued to "talk" to me though and after it arrived I was very pleased with myself for finally purchasing it. It includes some great patterns for using your log cabin blocks as well as giving the history at the books beginning of how the Log Cabin block originated. Very interesting read. The patterns are well-thought out and the full color photos are beautiful and inspiring. I found that, being a fairly experienced quilter and sewer, I still found many projects I am very eager to begin and several photos that have inspired me to create some very beautiful quilts and projects. All in all, experienced sewer or not, this is a great book and certainly worth having in your collection.

Excellent book for all skill levels.
The book starts with a history of log cabin quilts and some photos of antique quilts. There are good instructions for each project and options for different arrangements of blocks to create different effects. Beautiful photographs will inspire you. I am a self-taught quilter with beginner+ skills and I feel confident that I could make pretty much any project in this book. Highly recommend it.

Just Okay
I found the word "modern" to be misleading in what is simply a basic log cabin book. Some designs used very big pieces, but that is not modern by itself. There was little to give a contemporary or arty feel to the patterns. Most of the patterns are simple so are good for a beginner quilter, but they don't get the juices flowing. Most of us who quilt are not likely to be interested in them. The basic techniques were fine, and most explanations were clear. The method for binding is an interesting option if a quilter does not want to hand sew the binding to the back of the quilt. The other projects were pretty silly. In fact 2 1/2 stars would be a better rating.Look at this book in a library before buying it.
