Real Deal Rambo Compass Out of the 80s
I read a lot of good stuff about the compass before I bought it but I didn’t know it was made like things were made back in the 80s, to outlast your heirs and their heirs. Opening the clam needed some effort, very strong joints. Tough thick metal encasing a free floating liquidless compass with phosphorescent tick mark and looking window. All you have to do is flash a flashlight on the compass for 5 seconds & you can read everything in the dark. Closing the compass - brakes stop the compass stops rotating in stow away mode. Also no need for a ruler. The ring rotates in clicks 3 clicks 1 degree. Once you take angles from a map all you have to do is count clicks left or right to set declination. Directions are to the T accurate when I compared it to iPhone compass app. Amazing stuff really. Even if you don’t use one..nice collectible.

for land nav, military style, use this, otherwise by a base plate compass
this is a very accurate instrument. i bought 2 as gifts for land nav for up and coming youg men. these compass were tested on a compass prover i made some time back using a brunton and a compass of this type.these compass were on the line, zero error.these do not have tritium which dies at about 10 years. the one i use, i bought in 1994 if i remember, and have carried it on countless deployments and training missions. i can not recommend a better compass for land nav. if you are doing surveying and money is tight, buy a detuck

made in the USA, which is always a bonus. And it feels solid, like, you can tell it's built to last. Honestly, if you're into outdoor stuff, or just wanna feel like a badass, this compass is a must-have. It's the bomb, period. Heavy duty
I've never in my life needed one of these and never saw one. I started a job as a land surveyor. We use all high quality gps junk. I had to learn how to Orient myself so I could set up a total station. This compass and ranger beads really helps me when I'm standing in the middle of 2 lane country roads while the guy training me is watching tik Tok videos in the work truck. Thanks dorin
