Camranger does the job I need
Using this with a d800 it isnt fast but it seems to be mostly stable and it is much more affordable than the nikon brand option. I have had an issue that caused some trouble, I use the d800 with the mb-d12 grip and while shooting the battery in the grip depleted and the camera switched to its internal battery. When this happened transfer of files over the usb seemed to become interrupted. The app on my macbook air appeared to become stuck at that point so I closed it and restarted it at which point the app just crashed. I attempted to reopen the app several times when it continued to crash. I started the Ipad app which asked me if I wanted to continue the existing session or start a new one at which point I chose to start a new one and my problems for both apps went away. These are the sort of issues that make me think this could be a better product but all in all I think for the money it cant be beat. I do have some gripes about the tethertools mount that came bundled with this camranger, I stuck it on the camranger and left it sitting overnight. I then attached it to a tethertools hotshoe mount and attempted to use it. It all seemed sturdy and after playing i set the camera on my desk with the camranger still atop the hotshoe, when I came back a few hours later the camranger had rotated atop the sticky mount leaving me to believe it isn't the best adhesive. I was able to twist it back onto the adhesive so it was not crooked but it didnt end up as centered as I had originally placed it. I have since had it slide back to being crooked. I may have to look for a better mounting solution that I wont be nervous about the possibility of failing on me.update: the mighty mount failed, the camera was atop my tripod, with the camranger mounted via mighty mount on the 8inch hotshoe bar sold by tether tools. While I was standing there camranger came toppling off saved only by the USB cable (and with potential of doing damage to the USB port on my camera). I will be looking for an alternative method to mount camranger.

Expensive but handy device to enhance and extend ones photography
This device has been an invaluable addition to my photography kit. I use this with a 3rd generation IPad and Nikon D7100 to get great sunset, moonscape and wildlife photos. I can setup camera with CamRanger and get back in the car and have complete control of cameras focus, exposure settings and see results immediately on larger screen format with large histogram and picture simultaneously. Pictures download quickly to IPad and can be sent out over the Internet while in the field. Great close up shots of skittish wildlife as many animals have little fear of cars. I've set up camera near back yard bird bath or feeder while looking out upstairs window... I've been using this device for more than a year now and things just keep getting better and better. I plan to use with CamRanger PT pan and tilt hub on up coming trip to Moab. Time lapse features and hub should allow for great astronomy photos.

Oh My Aching Back (no more)
I just LOVE my CamRanger. As a senior citizen with some lower back problems, it's really helped put the joy back into photography for me, as it gives me the ability to sit down and still control my camera from the comfort of my chair. Just added the MP-360 motorized tripod head and CamRanger hub, which now gives me the ability to not only control the camera, but to move it from the comfort of my chair as well. Standing or walking for extended periods of time are a problem, and CamRanger has given the solution. We senior photographers sometimes have to adapt to our changing physical condition, and I'm delighted to be able to find products such as these that allow me to do what I love doing.I also want to comment on the great customer service from Dave at CamRanger. I have never once had a concern or a question that wasn't addressed immediately via email. For me, a company is only as good as the service they can provide when it's needed, and CamRanger (and Dave) are right there!!! Kudos CamRanger, and thank you Dave!!!

Just about perfect
I've been using the CamRanger with my 5DII with my iPad 2 for about a month now. I'd definitely make the purchase again.Three applications I've used it for: - I was doing some long-exposure night-time photography recently. At the beach, up on a cliff off the road, capturing the stars and some nice wave action. It was kind of cold out. I set my camera on a tripod, attached the CamRanger, then sat in my car and controlled the camera remotely. Worked like a charm. And it gave me a nice screen (iPad) to see what the exposures were looking like. - Photographing hummingbirds. I setup the camera and CamRanger along with a flash near where the hummers hang out, then went inside, waited for them to show up, and triggered the camera from my iPad. - Photographing people. This is where the CamRanger has been most useful for me. When I'm photographing people (singles, couples, groups, whatever), I usually need to find someone to use as a test subject to the get the composition and especially the lighting right. Now I can do it myself. Just put the CamRanger into Live View, walk to where you want your subject to stand, tap on the iPad screen to have it autofocus on you, and capture an image. I can adjust the lighting and iterate until I get it right. Its really nice to be able to adjust the camera settings remotely when doing this. Then, when I'm photographing my subject I can hand the iPad to my wife and she can see the images as they come in. Its easy to tell when you've got the image you wanted. Also nice to be able to hand the iPad to your subject so they can see as well.Pros: Very easy to setup. Works as advertised. Live view, adjustment of shutter speed, aperture, focus, bracketed images, all work well. After the initial setup, my iPad recognizes the wifi network (although see below). No need to go into Settings and find it. Range is pretty good. I haven't done any controlled tests. But it seemed to work up to 20 to 30' away, with some structure (walls, doors) between. Probably would have even better range w/o obstructions. Images download in a couple seconds if you have your camera set to take RAW + small jpg.Cons: As others have noticed, the software does crash occasionally. I'm hoping this will be fixed in future software updates. And there was one case where I seemed to lose control of the camera (at the camera). Had to reboot to fix it. Not sure if that is a bug or if I just got into a mode where you can only control the camera from the iPad. Also, it would be nice to be able to control the zoom remotely on zoom lenses. Given that they give you control over almost everything else, I'm guessing this is a hardware limitation of my camera. Other people have noted that when your device (iPad in my case) goes to join the CamRanger's wifi it will sometimes ask you for the password. I have seen this a couple times. But all you need to do is hit Cancel, then join again and it works fine.Anyway, I'd definitely recommend the CamRanger to anyone that wants to be able to control their camera remotely, or to have the ability to download images as they are taken.
