I felt free to give the ROKU to my husband - it has a lot of apps, and the video and sound quality are excellent.
This reivew is for the VIZIO 50" Smart TV.I'm pleased with the picture quality of this TV, and I love the smart TV functions. Netflix is just a touch of a button, and I felt free to give my ROKU to my husband for his not-smart TV. I was hoping for a bit more chance at selecting apps that I wanted to use- it's not nearly the range that ROKU has, but all the main ones were present. CrunchyRoll was the one that I was hoping to see, and Cinema Now, but they are not listed as being available. Amazon Prime, Netflix, Vudu, Fandango and several more were though - ALL the main ones. I do have an Android box I can use to get Crunchyroll, it has several HDMI ports to connect any sort of console to, either Android or gaming.Set up was easy. I used a wired connection on mine- it comes with both an Ethernet port AND wireless capability. The remote came with batteries, and that's needed once the TV is in place and turned on. The remote is very easy to use and intuitive. I'm using Comcast, and it had an inlet for the cable, and it scanned and found all channels easily. The sound quality is what I did not expect to be as good. I thought surely I'd have to plug it up to a sound system to get good quality sound, but it's really fine just the way it is.It comes with legs if you want to stand it on something, but I also bought this mount: Mounting Dream MD2268-LK Tilting Mount for 42-Inch to 70-Inch Samsung, Sony, Vizio, LG, Sharp TVs with VESA 600x400mm, Black which it fits just fine. My husband was able to install it by himself, it was heavy but it wasn't so heavy he needed help. Stronger men will be able to lift the 50" with no problems. The only problem/issue I've had was that at first I could not figure out how to get to the APPs other than the ones with buttons on the remote. There is a user manual that I was able to access from the TV and that information was in it - the remote has a button with 2 pretty big sillver DOWN looking arrows, that's what you press to get to the apps. The only app that it had, that did not seem to work, was TWITTER.It pays to spend some time exploring the remote. Menus let you change the lighting and other setting. For instance, you can run regular lighting, vivid, callibrated, ect.Update 5/12/2016 Figured out that firmware updates are automatic, but the TV has to be powered OFF for them to install. Cinema Now IS scheduled to be included in an update. As best I can tell, my system is a update behind. I'm trying to force one by going to system, and then system check, and leaving the TV off for a while. My TV has been on almost constantly- I'll update again as/ when my firmware update is applied.Update 6/8/2014 Still no CinemaNow, but Fandango and Vudu are available.

Great tv! Purchased 2 of these and could not be happier!
Great Tv! Very pleased with this item and am happy that I made the purchase. Received exactly as described. Does what the product description has written about the item. Would purchase this item again and would also recommend to others. I purchased 2 of them and we have had no problems with them at all. They are almost a year old and still work like the day we received them. When we moved into our new home last year our bedroom did not have a cable outlet so, we were going to call the cable company to have one installed and in the guest room. I searched on Amazon for a Tv that would not take up the whole bedroom but big enough to watch some movies. In my search, this item stood out to me the most and the reviews were more than helpful. Being this was our first Smart Tv, we enjoyed the features so much that we never did add cable in our bedroom. We also purchased a 60-inch Vizio for our living room because we liked this one so much. The applications on this Tv are perfect for us and we even joined a few that they offer such as Hulu. Some of the apps that we enjoy are Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. I love that I get to watch all my favorite YouTube videos in the comfort of my own bedroom. Another nice feature is if I start watching a video or a movie in the living room, I can finish it in the bedroom later when the kids go to bed. The second TV we purchased was set up in our guest room since we have many friends and family that come and vacation with us. It is nice to have this TV for our guests, makes them feel right at home.Installing the Tv is very easy to do. When you first start your Tv a setup menu will walk you through the installation process and you can choose your preferences. Since this is a Smart Tv, you will be able to use all the apps through Wi-Fi, having high speed internet will help the movies stream faster without timing out. I would recommend getting a high-speed internet plan because we did have problems connecting and once we upgraded, not a single problem after that. Hooking cable to the Smart Tv is the same as any other tv, in our living room we have cable connected to our large smart tv. We then have the option of watching cable or using our Wi-Fi to watch Netflix instead of HBO on cable. The other thing we did was purchase an antenna for our bedroom and hooked it up to this Smart Tv so that we could get local channels.Since this Tv is so light, it is also very portable. You can very easily move it from room to room if you wanted too. And because of its light weight it is easy to find a spot for it. In our bedroom, we installed an acrylic shelf and put the Tv on top of it. It looks great and has held up well on the shelf.

It's okay.
We paid around $300.00 $? shipped. This TV has gave us a few problems by not connecting sometimes but otherwise has been an okay TV. I think we paid a little much for it and the TV has given us a few issues so for that reason I'll give 3 stars.

Good for The Price
Review for VIZIO D50-D1 50-Inch LED Smart TV--Update Jan 28, 2017--The TV picture is still great but I have found a rather major audio issue.Frequently on startup the TV creates a loud variable static noise (like a barely tuned radio signal) through the RCA outputs which are run to a Cambridge Audio stereo pre-amp/amp combo. It is loud and overpowers literally everything else. With my PC connected the static changes when scrolling and seems to be louder when the screen is white and almost disappears when it's fully black. Opening the TV menu during this causes the noise to get even louder and varies when moving through the menu. The internal TV speakers, when turned on, do not have any issue. I have found that turning to TV off, unplugging it, letting it sit for a bit, then plugging it back in seems to solve the noise.Everything connected to the TV shares a good quality surge protector. I have tried all the standard diagnosis steps (different cable and routing, different inputs, different outlets, disconnecting one cable at a time, ground-loop isolator, etc.) and the issue comes down to the TV itself. I have come to the conclusion that this TV has an internal power issue though I do not have the expertise to figure out what it is. If anyone has any idea or has also encountered this issue I would love to hear what you've done. For not I will leave my review at 4 stars though I will drop it to three stars if after checking with a professional I still have no fix.--------------------------------So far I have used this TV heavily for about a week. I do a combination of console gaming and satellite. I would highly recommend trying out the different picture presets until you find the one you like. I use calibrated for most viewing. I have not noticed the viewing angle issues mentioned in other reviews. So far I would recommend this TV.Pros-Nice and bright even next to a south facing window.Good picture with SD satellite broadcasts.Ease of menu use.Lightweight and easy to move/set up.Stand height (about 2.5") and positioning allows shorter devices/items to be placed under the TV.3 HDMI inputs.Cons-Smart TV streaming through both LAN and WiFi are extremely slow (300kbps on 30mbps connection at best); Netflix is unusable. Can't disable WiFi without a factory reset.VERY limited playback via built in media player. It's useless for the majority of video files.

Great display, but a sub-par media player
I purchased the 24" version of this TV for my son's bedroom. I set the brightness quite low, as we use it a lot at bedtime to help him fall asleep (otherwise he's up for hours on end). For that purpose, it was probably overkill, however, I didn't want to risk a cheaper brand that I know to be inferior to most other brands... It is my first Vizio purchase, but it couldn't be worse than that other brand... Could it?No, I don't think so. This little TV is great! The picture quality is excellent, and the volume levels are good. I have no complaints about the TV's build, or the inputs on the back of the TV. I like that I can plug a USB stick directly into the thing, and be able to watch videos stored on it. There are a few apps you can download, too, which obviously requires an Internet connection. The WiFi setup was a breeze, and the rest of the interface is easy to navigate with the included remote control.I am glad that it has Netflix and YouTube built in, but the biggest problem I have with it, and this is where the one star gets knocked off the score, is the fact that the media player is so garbage. You can play one video file and afterwards, it just stops. There's no way (that I can see) to make it play the next file in the current directory automatically. When a kids' show is only 20 minutes long, this makes it impractical. Furthermore, the DLNA playback support is poor. It won't even handle files that the TV can handle when played from a USB stick! How does this make sense? It doesn't. I wish they'd add a Kodi build to the app store, but making it run on the TV might be a whole can of worms. In any case, if you plan on hooking up an Android or other device, you'll be much better off. The built-in stuff suffices, but it also holds it back quite a bit. As a display, it gets a full 5 stars from me. But as a smart TV, I have to knock it back a peg for messing up the basics.

Great picture, useless apps
This is an incredible flat screen for the price I paid. Incredible picture quality. Fantastic build quality. Excellent remote. The built-in speakers aren't even that bad. However...The built in Vizio apps are horrid. I don't understand why TV makers don't just put straight Android on their SmartTVs. This unit with vanilla Android and access to the Play Store would be mind-blowing. I'm ignoring the built-in apps and using it with a Nexus player. Still highly recommend the TV itself based on the pleasure I have viewing it.------May 24, 2018 update:I purchased a second one of these units from Amazon last week. I was trying to do this at work as this was a last minute thing and I rushed through it because I didn't want my boss to see me on Amazon. I threw the lowest priced VIZIO in my cart and purchased it. It arrived exactly when Amazon said it would and it was VERY well packaged as usual. When I opened the shipping container, however, I discovered I had ordered a used unit rather than a new one (explains why it was so cheap, though!).I went back and read the Amazon info on the unit. It noted that it was in good condition with maybe 5% of the unit having cosmetic defects including very small scratches on the screen. I've looked for the scratches on the screen and couldn't find them. If they're there, they aren't an issue. Also, the cosmetic damage to the front of the unit came off with a bit of elbow grease and some cleaner. I'd say the unit was in exceptional condition. It arrived with all needed booklets, pieces, and a pristine remote control. Props to Amazon for selling such a high quality used unit. What I said before about the crappy built in software on this flat screen stands, but this is a fantastic TV on the cheap if you have a Roku, Chromecast, or Amazon Fire Stick attached (which we do). I'm very happy to recommend this unit to others. Our first TV that was purchased in November of 2016 is aging well with no hot pixels or screen defects appearing and the colour and contrast are still excellent.

Solid value, great picture for the money, easy setup and lots of connections. A winner.
This is the second Vizio I've bought in a year, the first a larger model and now this 50-inch. When one of my TVs burned out I needed a replacement that didn't have too many bells and whistles, as it would be used primarily for Netflix, cable TV, and BluRay DVDs (no 4k resolution needed). At the price point, this 50-inch was a perfect choice, priced so as not to be too significant an investment. It arrived and was in place in two days, thanks to Prime, and took all of about 5 minutes to bolt on the legs, connect a few HDMI inputs, and get it running smoothly with streaming services. The entire process from opening the box to watching streaming video took less than 15 minutes. As with the larger Vizio in my main room, the colour saturation, black levels, and brightness are all very good (perhaps not state of the art, but at this price, that's to be expected). The backlight really helps when the screen is bright at night, and is something I barely notice working. The TV has a built in wifi connection, so adding any streaming service over wifi is trivial. There's plenty of HDMI inputs, plus a cable TV input if you want to use it, and there's an optical out for feeding a sound bar or audio system. As mentioned, this isn't a record-setter for resolution (it supports 1080p at 120Hz refresh), but that's perfectly acceptable for everything I need. Instead of paying thousands for features I may never use, I was absolutely delighted with the performance-per-dollar of this Vizio, and I'm already ordering another one for a bedroom. Overall, great value for the money, and probably enough TV for all but cutting-edge adopters.
