Arduino Software Internals: A Complete Guide to How Your Arduino Language and Hardware Work Together

Revealed at last. Less nebulous now. But still not easy.

I was looking for a book that detailed the firmware/software side of Arduino. There are lots of cookbooks etc that show how to connect/create things but actual software books seem to be thin on the ground, or at least thats how it appeared to me. However a search on Amazon gave me the “Arduino Software Internals” which is exactly what I was looking for. This book is 600+ Pages long and covers compilation, language reference, Arduino classes, Interrupts, I could go on. Its main platform is the UNO R3 but I would say the areas covered are applicable to the 2560 R3 as well (with some architectural differences to be considered). However if you are a beginner then the UNO is a good board to start with. I mentioned firmware at the start and this book addresses the more low level interface that the can be employed using code to address the hardware more directly instead of through the use of language function calls.There are plenty of worked examples to try the source of which I believe is available online, haven’t tried that yet.

Sebbene in molti lo denigrino, Arduino è uno strumento molto potente. Conoscerlo a fondo non è semplice e richiede pratica, pazienza, dedizione e anche una buona dose di cautela ed attenzione. Quando si opera con Arduino a basso livello il pericolo è dietro l'angolo e questo libro specifica gli errori più comuni che rendono difficilmente recuperabile il microcontrollore. Il libro espone chiaramente i concetti ed aiuta il lettore con esempi. Se c'è una cosa che non condivido è l'impaginazione... forse un po' troppo dispersiva. Caratteri troppo grandi, spazi eccessivi che non fanno altro che aumentare il volume del libro. Questa è una scelta dell'editore e non può in alcun modo condizionare il mio giudizio, quindi 5 stelle!
