Perfect for the small server or a 1 CPU workstation.
This is a very well designed motherboard for a 1U server or for a desk-side workstation. Ours installed quickly and worked on the first try. It requires an LGA2011 Xeon so check your processor compatibility. At this time, the sockets v3 and v4 are fairly recent and among the more expensive Xeon's, but they are also very powerful so the combination of processor and motherboard is a high performance system. Also the memory capacity is huge. The form factor for the CPU cooler is the narrow one, not the square one. There are specific Supermicro coolers recommended, depending on your processor and chassis. Check their website. This motherboard also has remote management features and will expose two MAC addresses on the network Ethernet ports, one for the usual network and the other for management through a web interface. If you do not know about this, read about "IPMI" on the Supermicro website. This second port is a security risk and may not be apparent unless your network sees the duplication and generates an error or cuts off service. There is an jumper to turn this feature off, but it also turns off power management and the chassis fans will run full speed if you select it. A better solution is to connect the management network jack to a private LAN, log into it with a browser, and at least change the password for the administrative account. Given that, the board is highly recommended if you have at least an awareness of network security issues. We use it for a data server, but with the PCI slots and memory capacity, it would be a fine data analysis workstation board too at a very reasonable price.

DOA
Due to the pandemic, I didn't get a chance to build this system right away. Well, I am past the return period, and this thing was DOA. I was extremely careful about ESD as well, but didn't seem to matter. Cannot get the thing to POST no matter what I do.Huge waste of money, never buying supermicro garbage again.

Quality control issues
I set two of these boards in HyperV configuration completely identical. One is flawless. The other one is prone to the sSATA failures which just locks up the virtual machines running on them. I've tried different drives and cables but I had to finally plug in a spare RAID card rather than use on-board one to make it useful. Sort of defeats having 10 on board SATA adapters. I replaced drivers and can't think of anything other than hardware chip issues. These two servers were designed to replicate to each other but I had been forced to put all my virtual machines on the device that works well and reboot locked up board 1-2 times a week. Since offloaded to older RAID card it is working again with same drives and cables as before. My older add-on Sata 2 RAID card can't push my SSD disks to their potential so I have left all virtual machines on better unit. One motherboard is wonderful, the other is terrible.
