Very realistic reading content with great insight - a must read for novice and experienced traders.
It is the title that caught my attention. I have had some experience trading commodity futures. I decided to purchase it. Carley's writing stands apart because she has focused on providing her insight throughout the book as she brings in subject matter chapter by chapter in a methodical, incremental and meaningful way. This insight is based on her own experience in Commodity trading.Second things is: I felt that Carley was there reminding me of the big picture throughout the book (as it is easy to forget it when lost I details) even as she took me through necessary details of technical and fundamental analysis, seasonal tendencies of commodities, commitment of traders reports, trading strategies, heging, risk management, Margin considerations etc,. She has given all the details of trading basics in fact. Next, in addition to giving the background-knowledge (static) for commodity trading Carley has given specific information (dynamic) how to keep up to date with the latest commodity reports, news and analysis by reading what her experience has taught her as the best and most reputed publications like HighTower publication. Carley sheds extra light even on seemingly familiar activities like put writing. It was an eye opener and a very big one at that when I learned that the huge bid/ask spread created on far out of the money put spreads when the stock market melted down in 2015 could have killed traders who sold many such spreads thinking such spreads are safe in that one can always get out in a reasonable way! I feel that Carley's book does complete justice to its title in that provides practical knowledge to recognize high probability trading. There is also enough subtle humor in the book. Last but not the least I will say there are two whole chapters on tips and tricks and how to use it based on our own personality where she also talks about psychology of trading, ego battles with the market, problems of overtrading and practical tips on how to avoid it, etc,. I loved reading the chapters: 'Thinking outside the Box' and 'The Hidden Gems of Commodity Trading'. I finished reading this book and I must say it has also had a cleansing and detoxifying effect on me and I must say I am lucky to have done it two days before the most watched election.

high level introductory guide
Read this book recently. Here are a few thoughts:1. It has lots of good ideas which are practical and common sense.2. The most useful part of this book is how to read and interpret COT reports. This is very important.3. It is a beginners guide and has lots of generic information on the various types of commodity trading and strategies including trend following, counter trend, fundamentals etc. She has a bias against trend following which is understandable but the logic provided is not accurate. She leans on band trading ( bollinger bands) but has not mentioned the caveats of Bollinger Band and when it does not work... e,g sliding of bands is very common and you would have lost a fortune if you followed counter trending recently. She mentions stop loss is a bad idea and provides alternatives. What happens if there is price shocks like the recent energy price collapse.. Trend Following would have been better than counter trending or perhaps staying in the sidelines. There are times each of these methods work and there are times they don't work at all.4. Risk control and risk management concepts are covered at a high level. Position Sizing guideline is too generic. Probability and risk are not covered at all and this is where the title of the book misses its mark.5. She does cover a great deal in psychology of trading and constant advice on de-leverage and smaller contracts ( mini contracts ) which are very insightful.6. There are lots of interesting quotes in the book ( from Bruce Lee, Bogle, Warren Buffet, Einstein, Soros ) which makes the book a very entertaining read.. loved a few them and laughed. but they have no context to commodity trading. If you are serious about trading, I don't think this book will help you at all but it does provide a good overall perspective of what's out there.

Give yourself an edge -- Get this book!
Carley really hits a homerun with this book. The biggest difference between this book and other trading books is that not only does she give very clear and concise explanations for all of the covered subjects, she also makes sure the reader understands the risks involved, and details many of the pitfalls that traders, including experienced ones, can fall into. This book has a lot more useful and easy-to-read content, and a lot less hype and fluff, than most books on the subject. The title says it all. After reading this very well written book, you will definitely have a higher probability for success while trading commodities. And every edge you can get is important in this game. This books gives you that edge!

Very basic
Also not very well structured or objective. Could read all the good information out of a couple of webpages. For the beginner trader would only recommend a couple of chapters.

Great explanation and strategies for risk management
Excellent book. Carley Garner really explains risk management well and offers some very good strategies. Very good introduction to trading commodities even though it is more of an intermediate level book. I am a beginner but this book is very useful and has a lot of good tidbits from some of the most successful investors of all time, like Warren Buffett and Paul Tudor Jones. I highly recommend this book for any investor who wants to learn.

My first commodities book
I loved to read this book! I think It is a great introduction to commodities market, and more than that, because it is really a book that gives you the tools for that market, and in that sense, i found it very useful. All markets are covered in a synthetic way with their specificites, seasonality pattern, intermarket relations, etc...However, I found the book a bit poor in position entry and exit. And I was a bit suspicious about not using stop losses, I agree that using stop loss orders can cause damage (especially in low liquidity markets), but, even if most of time I do not use stop losses on markets with low liquidity, I always have a point at which, if I asses that it's not going to recover soon, I exit the position. She recommends to use options which is quite original for day trading, I think as she is a professional trader she is used to holding the position for several time and hedge it.To summarize, this is a very good book, which I would complete with a more specialized book like gold market, oil, ...

Great read
I've had an account with DeCarley for about a year, and I enjoy the emails I get every week with her analysis and market updates. Hence, I bought the book. And I read it all in 2 days. I'm an experienced options trader, so even though a lot of things in the book are not new to me, I found it informative. Most trading books tend to be written in a dry, dull, academic style, but Carley has her unique, easy-going, conversational style and that makes this book very readable. I was nodding my head in agreement when I was reading the section on synthetic options (pages 235-241) because what she has written is what I actually do in my real trading. If you want to learn about commodities (and futures trading), it's a must read book.
